I guess if you make sure it is food grade.

Here in the U.S., most consumers will only find "food grade" mineral oil. It's common for butcher block conditioning, oiling carbon steel knives and tools, blade sharpening, etc.

Industrial mineral oil, which is less refined, may contain carcinogens, so it is rarely marketed to consumers.
