I can think of plenty examples from each "genre" that use all those tones. No rules.

So tough to say. In blues, for example, you've got Roy Buchanan with bright stinging tones,  and then BB King with sexy smooth warm tones. Every genre has got players who prefer brighter sounds, and players who prefer warmer sounds, and every other characteristic you want to apply.

Are you trying to determine what characteristics you want for a guitar, and thus what woods you want to use?

I've always thought Emo would sound best played on the swinette, that is grabbing a pigs snout and blowing thru its ass.  Emo... great God in heaven deliver me now!

My favorite thing is that that Hawthorne Heights band has three guitar players.  I mean if they are all going to play the same chord, why not just double or triple track it?
Alfang... you were better off not knowing...
