MoonStrato - First build ever

I agree, that's sharp! Too bad there isn't a way to install that without fasteners showing.

Actually, you could recess some rare earth magnets where you'd typically put the screws through the pickguard, and glue their opposites to the back of the pickguard. Just drill a shallow hole the exact diameter and twice the depth of the magnet and you're there.

Harbor Freight has the goods:

But if you go that route,  you might want to use slightly different locations than regular pickguard screw holes just in case you want to install a conventional plastic pickguard at some point in the future.

Depending on the gauge leather used, at 1/8" thick, they may be taller than the pickguard is thick. I take it then that you mean to drill a deeper hole in the body to accommodate them.

I like that idea, definitely got some potential for future reference!  :icon_thumright:

I had that thought too, but with the pickups and pots mounted to the pickguard I wonder if the whole assembly might be too heavy to stay in place reliably. Although, those rare earth magnets are freakishly strong...

Also, re: the thickness issue, you wouldn't need to put magnets in the pickguard - you could put them in the body and mount pieces of steel in the pickguard.

I thinking using some very small black screw in pickguard dark area , so it not really showing up .

I imagine that could be made to work. Smaller than standard and strategic placement, rather than traditional.

As soon as I get money, I will order the remaining parts and then I will post more pictures. This has been quite long project and summertime has drained my wallet dry  :laughing7: Latest purchase was the Cobra -set from Bare Knuckle Pickups, and I think that I'm gonna get the remaining parts next month

EDIT:
Oh yeah, my buddy painted the body. Turned out really nice  :glasses9: We used mainly yellow stain and some brown stain for little burst effect. It hasn't yet been coated, but I will post pics when it's done.

The before and after shots of that finish, show a complete transformation; it's remarkable!  I'm looking forward to seeing how that turns out, once you're satisfied with the final result.

So, this is my first ever building attempt. I've always had quite crappy and cheap guitars, so i decided to make a little effort and build one that I'm happy with :)

Body is just a Strat replacement body made from poplar. I'm planning to make the finish with my buddy later.

Neck is a Mooncaster with modern construction, standard thin, maple and bloodwood, 6150 jumbo ss, 22 frets, Sperzel tuning holes, gold pearloid trapezoid inlays and vintage tint gloss finish.

What initially grabbed my attention though, was the gold pearloid blocks on the neck.  I actually purchased an ebony fretboard with that, but have since cancelled it for unrelated reasons.  I would like to include them on a future order if possible, because they create a beautiful effect.  I have been curious to see how they look on other colours, such as your bloodwood fretboard and they do combine well with it.
