Metal flake

Here are a couple metal flake paint jobs I did over factory paint jobs. Both are Squier body's with Warmoth baritone necks. I used plain old glitter. The process is to lightly scuff with 600 grit and spray a coat of clear. While the clear is still tacky sprinkle on the glitter. On the orange one I sprayed two more coats and called it done. On the "galaxy" job I sprayed on a number of coats over the period of several days. The orange one got a very light finish sand and was then polished. The galaxy job was level sanded with 400 then worked all the way through 3000 grit.

A few notes. The best results, from multiple coats of clear fully burying the glitter. It's a very labor-intensive process and probably not for someone who isn't comfortable with finish sanding. It is a great way to save the finish on something with some minor chips in it as the glitter covers a lot. If I had it to do again I probably had a few more coats of clear to the orange one. Sanding too deep can cut into the glitter and remove some of the sparkle.

Nice work. Proper finish sanding is a PIA but it's the only way to get those kind of results. Congrat's on doing some fine work there......... :icon_thumright:
