Warmoth says the tone is similar. Warm and dark-y.
I guess the main difference is scarcity and the fact that Koa is so much more prettier.
I woonder( all things being equal-  I know pickups must be matched to a guitar, Im a pickup  nut) if Koa exhibits a sweeter tone in general?

EDIT_ I did find this one beauty ona google search. Mahogany AND Koa!;

Koa is like Mahogany with a wider bandwidth, so you can get convincing single coil AND fat humbucking tones out of one guitar with the right pickups and switches.

Goes from Mahog. tones to warm Alder or twangy Alder single coil tones( a bit more bottom end than Alder in single coil, usually).

It also has good resonance, loud unplugged even with heavy weight- I've had 2 neck thru Koa and one Bolt Koa- they've been heavy in weight but all have had similar tones to what I've described.

I'm on this Forum to find out if Korina is even better.
