Hello gentleman.  I'm having a tough time finding a Warmoth profile that I like.  My main guitar for years has been a '96 Malmsteen with scallops.  It has a wonderful C profile, that comes close to my '80 SG and my '78 Les Paul.

My first Warmoth order was a standard thin with scallops.  It was way to thin, and with the scallops it felt like it could snap in half if I just banged the headstock on something.

My 2nd order was a '59 roundback, but it was way too big, and I couldn't stand the compound radius.

My 3rd order was a standard thin, but with a 9.5" flat radius.  Now we're talking!  Still a little too thin though..

My 4th order was a Clapton with the 9.5 radius.  Not bad, the soft V is too hard to get used to, especially if you change guitars as much as I do.

My 5th order (hasn't arrived yet) is a SRV contour with a 9.5" radius.  Hopefully, 5th time's a charm!!

The ultimate goal is to order four complete guitars, all at the same time, but I want them all to be perfect.  I've already decided that I can't stand Ash, so Alder it is for all four.  I also must have trems on all four, and the Gotoh 510ts-fe1 is the clear winner after trying the usa Fender trem, and the Wilkinson.  The four guitars with be a strat,a tele, a jazzmaster, and a super strat with a Gotoh floyd.  Not sure if I'll do contoured heel on all of them, but I'm definitely doing the forearm and tummy cuts on the tele.

Any tips or ideas for me?  Thanks in advance, guys !!!

sounds like you've got a whole lot of warmoth. i would think that the '59 roundback would have been the closest thing to what you're looking for (maybe with a flat radius) so i guess i'm not much help :dontknow: hope this ones the one! and post some pictures when it gets there :icon_biggrin: can never be enough guitars on this forum!

I don't understand why you did not like the compound radius because there's only a miniscule difference between a 9.5 and 10 radius which the compound has up to the 12th fret. And, you would have to scallop a 9.5 to get the playability of the compound's remaining 16 radius. I'm not a scallop fan because it lessens the structural integrity of the neck and you sensed that. Admittedly I have lightly scalloped a few necks mostly between the 14-21 fret area.
If the '59 seems too big try warming up on a cheapo classical guitar with a 1 3/4" nut and a '59 will feel like a toothpick and the standard thin will feel like a needle. The SRV on order will feel a bit fuller than the Clapton and IMO it is the better of the two. I've used every optional neck profile Warmoth offers except Wizard for obvious reasons. What I currently use unless someone requests otherwise is either a Fatback or Boatneck profile because of tone, playability, structural integrity and saves $35.00 for an optional profile which is applied to SS frets and shipping. Generally a SSS Strat with a trem route Alder body weighing around 4 to 4.lbs. 5 oz. makes the best tonal choice and if you finish your own bodies Alder eliminates a lot of prep work.  Good luck with your builds.

Thanks for your help, guys!  I just received the shipping email today, so my Jazzmaster body and SRV neck should be here next Thursday!  I'll post pics by Thursday night !!  Here's a few pics for now..

The baby blue was the scallop neck, with a 5.1 pound solid ash body - too thin of a neck, too heavy of a body

The beater is an old body, not sure what brand - The neck is a standard thin 9.5 radius, vintage tint

The candy tang has been rebuilt, using a solid alder body instead of chambered ash, and a standard thin 9.5 radius birdseye neck, instead of '59 roundback compound radius neck.  Speaking of that, anyone want to buy the orange body or neck ??

The clapton neck I have is on my Malmsteen body, but I don't have a pic of it..

Woohoo!  Tracking says my 9.5" radius SRV neck, Jazzmaster body, and all the parts will all be here tomorrow !!

It all arrived about Noon today, and I finished her about 7pm.  3 hours of not being able to put it down !!  Here's a link to the new thread..

Love the SRV so far, but it's a little to chunky for me.  I decided to take Uberschall's recommendation and order a Wolfgang, along with a new Inca Silver chambered ash body.  Warmoth shipped them both last night, so they'll be here Tuesday.

Anyone wanna buy a '96 USA F*nder Malmsteen body and neck ??  I'll sell 'em cheap.  Tuners, trem, claw, posts, springs, neckplate & screws, and jackplate are all included.  Just keeping the assembled pickguard.

Price, umm, not sure yet.  It's was refretted about a year ago, and the nut was changed to a bone nut.  Sounds more like a normal strat now instead of the super bright brass nut sound.  Body is all stock.  Also has upgraded Fender Schallers, but comes with the original tuners.  Add an assembled pickguard and you're to rock!  Make me an offer !!

good choice, i have an srv and it's ok for certain playing styles but it seems like the bottom edge is a bit of a wedge shape like the radius doesn't come fully round which is what id expect from a neck that has been sanded so many times. the wolfgang is designed to be what it is not just an accident from years of use. that's what my next neck will certainly be.
