In Stock Bodies

I have always been nervous about ordering a body from the showcase without the trem routed before paint.  Has anyone had experience with having a painted body routed?

I am curious, first if the sides of the hole are painted (I'm assuming not).  If it is raw, is the wood visible?  How does the paint around the opening hold up?

Thanks!
Greg

If you purchase a body from the showcase that does not have a trem rout, you won't have the option of having a trem rout done.  This is because the back of the guitar is done first, then the body is flipped over to do the routing on the front.  The front routing destroys the index holes that kept the body in place for the routing on the back, so it's no longer possible to do any CNC table work on the back (which is how the cuts are actually made).

Sorry, I mean the top opening for the trem.  A lot of the bodies are "your choice tremolo" with only the back routed.

Ah.  I understand now.

Once it leaves the paint shop, it's done getting paint.  So if they cut the cavity for the trem, it will have bare wood edges.

I just had this done.  You can see the before and after here:  http://unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=24515.0

Is the link correct, I am getting an error that the topic doesn't exist.

I've done many that were supplied that way, and you end up with raw wood showing, but the surface paint isn't affected. No chips, in other words, if that's what you're worried about. Sometimes I'll dye the raw wood so it doesn't show up as much, which sorta depends on the trem/pickups you use and what color the finish is. Recessed trems will always show the wood to some degree, as will wood mount pickups.

It works for me but you may not be able to view it since it's still pending approval from a moderator.  It's full of remote links.

Maybe you could post one photo of what you're talking about in this thread, Neo Fender?  The mods appear to be taking their time to approve your post in the other thread.

Notice how the control and middle pickup routs were "refreshed".

That's a beautiful example, and is typical of my experience. They must change their bits often and run them at super-high speed as the after-finish routs are always very clean.

This was a great question to ask; I've been curious about the very same thing but, for some reason, never bothered to ask. Thanks for running that one by the fellas, and welcome (-if it isn't too late) to the 'boards!  :icon_thumright:
