How do you print templates? Specifically paper ones.

It seems to me like this is a really dumb question to somebody who knows the answer, however, how do you print out a template for a guitar that is the size of an actual guitar as opposed to a piece of paper in your printer? Do you go somewhere to use an industrial printer with giant paper...? How do people do this magical thing?

I have done this.  I basically bring up what I want to use and print it on the computer.  I then measure a few points I know on the paper like pickups, bridges, etc and makes reference to what a full size rendering should be.

For example if you measure something on the print up and its 30mm, and the full size should be 60mm, you know you have to plow that up to 200%.  I like to get a few common points and average the measurements together.

It cost me $2 at the local staples to blow it up.  Of course it helps to find a dead straight on photo of the guitar.

DMRACO's technique works, but if it all sounds like too much hassle, you can go to a Fedex/Kinko's or any copy shop that serves the legal trade and they'll probably have a large format, high-quality inkjet printer to do the job.  It'll run you a few bucks.

thats where I go but you still need to know how big to make it.

You should have some sort of "tile" option on your printer. You can print a fullsize template this way. You will just have to piece it together. I've done this a few times and it worked well. I was only interested in the perimeter though, :headbang1:

Like some have said. Kinkos. If you sized the drawing you did correctly in whatever program you use it will print true to size. The guitars I scratch built ages ago I used GIMP and drew them to scale. I saved the file as a PSD, walked it to Kinkos and boom. Full size set of printed drawings.
