How do bodies and necks wind up in the show case anyway?

Is it a result of cancelled orders??  Is it a result of finished products not passing quality control??  Wrong oprions or finishes on necks and/or bodies??  Customers changing their minds??  All of the above??

None of them... Just some bodies and necks with "the most usual configurations sold by Warmoth"...

Custom orders are not simple to deal with, so Warmoth tries to avoid it, doing somethings ready to you buy and don't mess around they too much...

PS: If I'm wrong, please correct me  :icon_biggrin:

The vast majority of Showcase items are first run parts that were specifically built for the Showcase.  Having a large selection is beneficial for the customer seeking a very specific look, specific weight or cannot wait the custom build time.

You will also find the occasional paint shop experiment or one of a kind piece of wood.  Very, very few items are factory seconds or cancellations.

Yeah, the turn around time is significantly shorter.  I ordered a fully custom body 10.5 weeks ago (quoted 10-12), still havent gotten it yet (don't mind waiting for this one though).  And last wednesday July 9th I ordered a showcase strat body in which they needed to rout for 3 pickups and a wilkie and I got the shipment notice today.  1 week turnaround time aint too shabby at all.

I have bought both showcase stuff & custom made. There was no differences in the very high quality supplied from either source.

I was just wondering.  I guess that's why there are so many bodies with such cool tops and finishes in the show case that Warmoth doesn't advertise.  I mean such cool finishes like the fire burst and bengal burst aren't in their selection of finishes, but if you search the show case, there they are.  I think that they really need to expand their finish options to reflect what their finishing department is capable of.

That's what the telephone is for - call them up and ask if they can do XYZ for you. Given what I've read on the board, if they have the machine tool capability and prior experience doing something, they'll usually do it for a small fee.

Showcase = showroom floor.

Would you ever pay for and order a car after having only seen photos?  (well, maybe a Lamborghini if I had the money :) ).  The showcase demonstrates their capabilities, and most likely satisfies a great number of their customers.  There is such a wide variety there that unless someone is really creative, there is probably something there for just about everyone.  Keep in mind those who frequent boards like this are most likely a skewed bunch and don't necessarily represent the common customer (I could be wrong).

I bought my 1st (one and only so far) body off the showcase and I'd most likely do another one from there too.  I don't have anything super-creative in my head that hasn't already been done there, and then I get to see EXACTLY what it's going to look like.

Same with necks, then I know exactly what the wood looks like.  Although with necks I'd always buy unfinished so I can chose fret size and finish option.

And that's exactly what I did when I ordered my VIP tfarny.  But, I had never heard of or seen a fireburst finish until I saw it in the showcase.  And It wasn't until after I placed my order that I saw a bengal burst.
All that I'm sayin' is that they could expand their burst finish catagory to include some of the cooler finishes.  Hell, I'd never heard of or seen a dragon burst, but that one is in in there...
I'm not complainin', I'm just sayin'...

Ah... Just because you see a finish in the Showcase does not mean it is a regular offering or will be done again.  Some of the unique finishes are experiments or are only done on woods meeting very specific criteria. (enhanced grain, for example)  Our paintshop is truly world class, but time and material costs are factors in determining which finishes are standard options.

I see... So does that mean that if I try to order, say a Bengal Burst finish on a quilted maple top, that it might not be able to be done??  I'm just asking because I really love that finish and I think that it would look great on a carved soloist top.  (I'm already trying to plan my next build...)  Or does it depend on if there are any quilted maple blanks available or other materials??

We've got quilt maple, though if you wanted it on a carved top soloist, it would be expensive for a 3/4" top.

Both bengal burst and fireburst are newer offerings and are not considered standard yet.  Think of it like an extended clinical trial.

I think the boys in the paint shop like to dick around a lot.... I sure would, if I had their toys. :hello2:

(I'll bet more than a few experiments get sanded/bleached off and refinished as staid ol' tobacco bursts...)

I prefer the carved topped bodies to the flat topped ones.  Just somethin' about the way that they feel when you're playin' 'em.  And besides, that's what I'm savin' for....Actually I should tell me fiance that she should buy it for me as her engagement present to me...After all, that ring cost me well more than what I'd pay for two custom Warmoth builds!!!  :party07:

Warmoth does offer gift certificates!  We've had more than a few ladies buy them for their spouses!

I would just like to say that I resemble that remark...  :tard:
