Sounds really good, how will you finish the body?? Remember that you SHALL leave this neck UNFINISHED, Rosewood doesn't need a finish to keep alright and you'll have the mighty raw feeling!

Not sure yet!! I'm planning on staining it brown and perhaps forest green on the back. Anyone have recommendations for SG body finish?

Wow, you got a wierd idea, Brown on the front, green on the back? Were you going to have Warmoth finish it or you finish yourself?
W does great finishes.

It sounds like you're going farily traditonal on this, so a noice brown shtain would look rich on the mahogany AND it would match the neck well. Lot of brown though....a see through green body would look really cool on this! ESP made some see thru green Eclipses and Horizons which came out real cool. Dark though.

For me a Mahogany SG just wants to be done see through red, in the classic fashion. A nice red or amber will bring out the warm colors in the face of the headstock.

I would finish it natural or white, but I think the white would need that bigger pickguard, unfortunately Warmoth doesn't offer (I hope they know they SHOULD offer), not sure where to get one like this that fits a Warmoth, perhaps only with luthiers...

I saw that neck - its a looker.

Nice thing on mahogany - is you can use those danish oils in colors on mahogany.  It wont be all grain filled doing it that way, but you can grain fill then danish oil.  The result is a smooth almost waxy feel that would be a great match for that rosewood neck.  I've got an Ovation "Adamas" (carbon fibre) guitar with a filled and danish oiled neck... fantastic feel.  Very enjoyable to play.

That's up to you. If you install electronics last, you can test them by plucking a string. If you don't you'll just wait.

Fit the neck, then take it apart.

Fit the TOM bushings partly.  Then remove them.  Then fit all the hardware, pickups etc.  You dont need to tighen the controls and such... just make sure everything fits.  Then take it all apart and finish the body.  During that time, you can fit the tuners.  When the body is done, you fit it all together, and do the wiring dead last.

Agreed, mahogany is nice with a black grain fill and some danish oil.... :icon_thumright:

What pups do you guys think for my SG body with all rosewood neck:
- SD Phat Cats
- SD Alcino Pro IIs
- SD '59s
- Gibson 490r/t

Any of those, or a bunch of others. It's not like buying a house - there are loads of good pickups out there. It's pretty normal to swap out one or three before you end up with the sound that really works.
One thing to consider if you get a traditional humbucker - replacing the magnets is easy and fun, costs just a few bucks, and drastically alters the sound of a pickup. So you can experiment with different sounds pretty easily. Say, get an A2 pro from SD and also buy an A4 and A5 magnet, do some comparisons. It's fun.

Those SD Alnicos are really nice.  I almost bought myself a set, probably will put them in something down the road.

Gibson sg's tend to be a bit thin toned, lacking some mids - which is why P90's and even the 490RT set sound great in them, and why (to me) the 57classics are not the best match.

HOWEVER

Warmoth SG's are made different - thicker body, different neck attachment.  The Phat Cats... I love em.  A nice set of Burstbucker Pro's would kick major tailfeathers.  Something with a good upper range to 'em, since you got that rosewood neck.
