Guess what I've just ordered

Puppy guitars are nice, but it's hard to find a case that'll fit them...

Roasted ash  :)

And our Canadian pop star/electronics wiz nails it again. That's 2 out of 3.
Yes, it's a Mustang body made of roasted swamp ash.

But what else? Roasted swamp ash aaaand ...?
Who nails number 3?

Koa or Koa on Mahogany body. Ebony on Pau Ferro neck.

No on the body - see above. But you get two points on the neck. Ebony is right, but Pau Ferro is not.
It's ebony on a ...? Who will guess right on this?

If you're roasting ash for the body, my guess is that you're roasting maple for the neck.
And T89Rex scores. The neck will be a Mustang neck made of roasted maple with an ebony fretboard. But not just roasted maple and just ebony. No, it's going to be roasted flame maple and black ebony.  :icon_jokercolor:

Now we only need one more guess for the body. Mayfly guessed Mustang - check - (1 out of 3), and he also guessed roasted swamp ash - check - (2 out of 3). But there's more to the body. Roasted swamp ash aaaand ...?

Quilted Maple.
Burl Maple
Plain maple sprayed gold
:toothy12:

And Stratamania gets the final detail right: quilted maple top on the body it is!

So - this is what's coming in 4 to 5 weeks time (no make that 6 or 7 weeks - Cagey's going to do his thing on it too):

Mustang body made of roasted swamp ash with a quilted maple top (color: amber dye)
Mustang neck made of roasted flame maple with black ebony fretboard.

But of course there's more to it than just the wooden parts. My plan is to do a special pickguard instead of the usual pickguard/control plate combo. Locking, staggered tuners, a humbucker in the bridge and single coil in the neck (not sure yet as to what I'll use).
And that ABM hardtail bridge I mentioned in a previous thread:

So - all in all, a pretty unique Mustang I reckon'.

Pictures will be posted in the future when stuff starts to arrive.

Sounds mega cool. Looking forward to following this build.

Thank you Rgand. :occasion14:
Yes, I think this is going to be one wicked and pretty unusual guitar.

I was quite keen on the idea of a gold top Mustang, but quilt maple is always nice.

Any clues on the finish?

No, it's going to be amber dye.

A few of those bodies in the showcas with that color has transparent brown on the back, which I think looks pretty nice:

The ones that have transparent amber on the back looks a little - well - too amber in my opinion:

But I still chose to have the back in transparent amber, since the wood for the body I ordered is roasted swamp ash and will be darker because of that. More towards a brownish color. I think.
I don't think there's been a body with that wood and color combination before, so we'll just have to see what it looks like when it arrives.

It is going to be interesting to see. Roasted swamp Ash reacts pretty dramatically to finish. Even the clear ones don't look anything like you'd expect.
