Guess what I'm making

It was too hot to do any thing else today and lacquer was drying at warp speed so I figured I get the headstock black lacquered. Here are some great pictures to illustrate when a surface is level sanded. I have a lot of people asked me how they will know when the surface is level and I tell them there can be no dimples in the surface. Well here you can see clearly what I'm talking about.

It is so temping to get to that point and say..."good enough."
The extra step is so worth it.

Greg,

I'm so glad I sent that guitar to you.

BTW,  I just did 4 gigs- all with Tonar finished guitars!  I'm do glad to own such spectacular instruments.

I'm glad I get to do this guitar! I always enjoy working with you Trevor.

DMRACO is so right; trying to push it always winds up making more work for you in the end.

I'm getting ready for color and here is a great shot of the pickup cavity of an old one for color reference on the yellow. You can't ask for a better color sample than that!

Tonar, it takes a certain amount of skill to make people get this excited about watching paint dry  :laughing7:

I shot yellow today. Notice I sprayed the teardrop shape of the burst heavy and I left the area that will get the burst with less material to keep the yellow from wrapping the edges and sides.  I did this by shooting from the center out. I also include the picture of the pickup cavity from the vintage guitar for color reference. Looks pretty good! It will look even better with the burst and some nitro over it.

on second thought...
a dog ear and a trussrod cover could still go on a Starcaster...

I would like to change my vote to Starcaster! (probably not with a b-bender)

has anyone here built a B-Bender?
Can you buy the parts somewhere or did they fabricate them?

WOW! Now that's cool!!!

The OP of this thread has built two or three of them...

Very nice!!!

Never played one, always wanted to. MANY years ago, I saw a Tele with a weird thing on it and didn't know what it was, later I found out it was a B-Bender - wish I had tried it out!

Not to hijack, but it would be more correct to say, "is making," one.  Trevor was a champ and sent me the template layout so I could cut the routing template while I accumulate parts.  Vic, Mayfly (Trevor) has several posts about it, some with incredible detail on the board.  Hipshot manufactures the assembly, the Parsons/Green B Bender.  This is the one that you see on the Fender Nashville Tele's with benders.  There is also a Parsons/White bender, and Trevor has built one of those as well.  Trevor builds them, Tonar paints them, Trevor plays them.  Helluva team.

Wow! you've resparked my interest in B-Benders. There are G-benders too, right?
One is triggered from the forward strap bolt and the other is triggered from the back strap bolt
tied to the belt, right?

Does it take long to get used to playing a Bender?
Always loved the way the BYRDS (and offshoots) used them (an idea of Parsons, I believe).

Except for buying them new from fender like that, I always thought that you had to send your
guitar off to get it modified (of course I never really looked into it).

and DANG! I gave away a MIM Telecaster a few years ago that I would have felt OK with making into one!!!

My bad.. :dontknow:

It is looking really good.  I am starting to remember all of my favorite Replacements tunes.  Sort of.  They are a bit hazy for some reason.  Anyhow, I like the guitar a lot.  Cool project.
