Isn't Bondo the only
real grain filler with true authentic vintage punk tone? Ahh.... "vintage punk"... they age
so well....
The odd thing is, if my instincts don't defy me (heh), those "zoot suit" guitars, if they are constructed somewhat adequately with strings that go somewhere nearly over the pickups and such - they would probably be a really good high-gain "clean" sort of guitar to trigger a modern hard-rock, complicated kind of pedalboard, even a synth (or ring modulator or two :evil4
.
Which has absolutely NOTHING to do with "zoot suits" stylistically, and that era of music (Harlem JAZZ?!?) isn't to be played on what ought to be a respectably high-gain fore-breathing monster.... think an L5, even 335's make a good guitar at that.
The marketing of it is a complete disconnect - nobody at Gibson ever plugged it in and played it.
And though I couldn't bear to subject my tender brain to actual factual samples, apparently this "Cherry Poppin Daddy" is like a cut-rate Squirrel Nut Zipper, who in turn were sort-of jump blues cut-rate Brian Setzer wannabees. Hey! I like Brian Setzer! Which also has nothing to do with phenolic guitars. I actually think they're kind of cool, and they're all being sold off the back of the bus at half-price in "MINT!" condition, what a suprise.... when they get to a quarter-price, I may try and BUY one. Obviously, absolutely nobody (including Gibson) has ever listened to one.
ZOOT SUITS? :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: There is nothing in the
appearance, in the social structure, in the probably sound where... aw shit. Gibson. Even "Jazz Age" fashion re: material chunks of stuff was like
art deco, right? Hey! I like art deco! Which wasn't Dymondwood either.....
