Hey pabloman,

thanks for your comment..... :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

That's what I thought as well.

Bye JULIA

PS:  Oooooohhhh, I probably get the Planet Waves Tuners...... someone on here gave me the tip

If it's going to be a metalflake finish, don't get the black korina, maybe not even mahogany. Unless you're going for a warmer, muddier sound, I think you can save a few dollars with an alder or ash body.

Be a shame to cover up black korina with fuscia flake.

Hey anorakDan,

well, I am actually going for a warm, muddy sound (blues), that's why I thought Mahogany for a body would be a good choice, but maybe the laminate can be different wihtout losing too much of the warm, muddy sound I want to have.

Bye JULIA

Gibson has been painting over mahogany and maple for years. Helluva lotta Les Pauls have that combination and are painted black, white, or have gold tops. They didn't make too many Korina bodies - in fact, the only ones I can think of are the early Modernes, which only saw limited production. Plus, it wasn't black Korina.

They also painted over a lot of necks.

Fender painted over a helluva lotta swamp ash. Not only painted it, but used vomit-inducing colors.

Point is, you use the wood and finish that makes you happy, crew expendable. But, it's probably a waste of money and rare wood to put a Korina top on something and paint over it. There's not going to be any sonic or mechanical advantage.

The first V's and Explorers were made from Korina.  There have been various limited runs of SG's as well.  I don't remember if they have put much out under the Gibson name using Korina, but Epiphone has been pumping them out for quite some time now.  Also, Korina is not muddy, I have a tele made from it and it growls with a good bite.  I have another guitar on the way that is painted over Korina, and I expect it to growl nicely as well.

I'm not a fan of the binding, or the thought of paint over Black Korina, but Fuschia Flake/Indian Rosewood/Goncalo Alves sounds like a very cool combo, if it works out right!
