GAS Alert!!!!

Sometimes I've posted things that I've had in my cart, then took out of my cart, then added back to my cart, rinse, repeat. Thank God someone else bought it.

Speaking of just that dilemma, somebody buy this, please!

Well, then, I shall post what I am calling the Warmoth droolbody.

I think that if I really wanted something from Warmoth's showcase, I'd keep my mouth shut about it until I either bought it or decided not to.

By tossing it up on the GAS thread you're basically passing on dibs, IMO. "Somebody please buy this" is in fact, quite often explicitly stated, and I'd assume that even in jest, it contains a bit of truth in virtually every case. ie - this is tempting me, and I don't really think I should buy it.

I'm apparently quite slow, but I finally did get the spirit of this thread.

Yo that wenge/Pau ferro neck is TIGHT AS A TIGER. I always thought dark necks with light fretboards looked whack until now. Maybe it's the binding or no inlays but I'm feelin hot under the collar right now. Zoinks!

Loosen off your collar, but we don't want to see you do the shimmy again.

Oh laaaawdy, check out this walnut lam in the builder... It's got a natural fade going on!

I'd would love to have this on my baritone build, think I can start a Go Fund Me for that  :laughing11:

So this popped up and it was too much for me, and I glommed onto it.

Now I have a body for this neck I picked up a not long ago:

Not sure quite yet how I'll finish it - that pale streak might make for a fun accent to a burst but I'm not overly fond of poplar green.  I might also do an opaque metallic finish.  I have a pair of Carvin S22 pups with chrome tops that I'll be installing.  Should be a fun project overall.

Congratulations, Ian. Good glom! That body has some beautiful grain in it. Maybe a transparent brown would mask the green enough and not loose the natural design? I read a post somewhere that setting the poplar in the sun for a few days can reduce the green tint. That's unverified but it might be worth a try.

What's that weigh?

Nice! There a method you can use to turn the poplar's green streaks to a sort of amber color, oxalic acid I think? You might want to look into it.

Thanks Robert.  I do like the grain pattern, even if it is green.  I'll look into ways to tame it.  Gonna pick up a streaky piece of poplar lumber at the local home improvement this weekend so I can begin trying out various approaches.

And body weight is a svelte 3 lbs. 7 oz.

Good idea. You may find a good way to keep the grain without the green.

That's a good weight. It should make a fine axe.

Poplar isn't green forever anyway. No matter what you do to it, it'll eventually brown.
