GAS Alert!!!!

I'm less resistant to the amoeba body shape than I used to be, but other than that the only good thing I can say about that design is that it's a six-string with humbuckers. Can't go wrong with that. Blue's nice, too. But, you're looking to build a platypus.

Ha! But what do you really think :) Do you feel the same way about Jazzmasters? After all, Warmoth's Jazzcaster is essentially just a Jazzmaster body with a different pickguard.

The Jazzmaster is what it is. It has a pitiful bridge and the vibrato is a cruel joke. But, if you don't install that system, the guitar ends up all out of proportion and looks unbalanced. If I were to build one I'd probably use the crummy vibrato, but have it welded internally so it would behave as a hardtail. That, in combination with a decent bridge would let the thing look right without being a problem child.

I think you can put the Fender Standard Hardtail bridge on, and then go for a Strat-style top routed jack, and then that balances out pretty well.

I'm getting GAS from everywhere right now... Trying to decide if I'm going the P-90 F-bird route and getting the showcase body, or if I want to custom order a Les Paul Deluxe -inspired carved top semi-hollow telecaster... :icon_scratch: At least Christmas isn't soon. Thinking more about the Tele maybe though. I've wanted a semi-hollow for a long time, and the mini hums can be replaced with P-90s if I decide I'm not a huge fan. Decisions decisions...

I can tell you - carved-top Teles are the whip. You want one. Even a solid one would be good, if it's reasonably light. Very comfortable sitting or standing, easy neck access, lotta room to customize and almost no matter what you do it'll look good. I've got two built up that are my favorites in the stable right now, and one body that's just collecting dust at the moment. If you think you'd like metallic black cherry, I can make you a helluva deal on that one. It would look great with a Maple or Bloodwood neck, or here's some shots of it with an Aframosia neck...

It started off with a standard Tele single coil route in the bridge position but I had them route it for a humbucker. That means if you use the Gotoh-style Tele bridge, you can go either way; the pickup will fit without further modification. The neck pickup route is for a Strat-style pickup.

Not completely. With a standard ring, you end up with a reveal of about 3mm vertically and 5mm horizontally. With the body being dark, you don't really see it at all unless you know it's there. Or, you can do what I did on one of my black ones and have a custom mounting ring made that has slightly wider long sides. Or, you can do the Gotoh bridge I mentioned earlier...

Those work well, look good and aren't expensive. The same bridge is available for a Tele bridge pickup, which will fit in the same hole that's routed for a humbucker now. Either way, everything is covered.

So did you buy them all ? .....  :laughing7:

:help:  Would someone, kindly - please buy this, so I can stop looking at it  :toothy11:
Darn that's nice  :toothy10:

Believe me, I'm jonesin' hard for that spalt  - or the Tele that went up the same day.  I have evil thoughts of a brown-yellow burst on the spalted Tele body, and a B-bender installed as well:

I reaaaaallllyyyy want to Tonar-ize this.  I also really can't spend money until after I get back from England next summer.  :-\

Really - WHO needs all those spalted tops?  :dontknow: :evil4:

My guess would be: spalted maple lovers.

And "need" might be too strong a word. "Want", on the other hand, is different.

It's always a unique piece of wood. It would be irresponsible to build anything structural out of it, but it's aesthetically attractive.
