GAS Alert!!!!

I have more warmoth guitars than I do talent, so I'm not in the market (translation: I haven't done crack this week, so I'm not an addict) but I love seeing when they do little experiments. Spectra blue to Inca silver burst:

3lbs, 12 oz. A little weird that they put it on a vintage strat body, but there you go.

Also, I've wondered what a carribean burst body would look like on poplar, and now I know:

It's also a one-piece body.  There's also a nice green-to-clear burst on there.

Figured wood is more expensive in thicker blanks, but I'd wager its mostly a combination of demand and machine time. People will pay more. Which makes it worthwhile. In a strat you have a combination of planar cuts and template routing. Most complex three dimensional cuts in CNC are done with a ballnose end mill, which only cuts on a tiny edge. Kind of like cutting the lawn with scissors.  Its not like cabinet moulding where a custom big honking cutter cuts a complex curve in a single pass. (Although when you're making truckloads of the same thing, custom tooling can be cost effective. But tooling has to be replaced)

not I.  I thought hard about it, but couldn't come up with an aesthetic circumstance where the red dots and red wood would be what I wanted.  Still, sweet neck.

Excellent news - glad that someone from this forum got it, and I think it'll go very nicely with that body, Updown.

I considered that neck too.  If those inlays had been available when I got my last neck I most likely would've changed woods around.
Some reason I always think about a different neck for my Strat but then I play it and remember why I love it so much as it is.

Just bought this puppy within minutes after it showed up on Screamin' Deals:

Gonna stick it on my $89 basswood strat body I got last week from Screamin' deals.  At this rate I may come up with a fully stocked Warmoth strat for under $600 bucks with pickups, hardware, and finishing.

I feel a trip to the Guitar Fetish website for pickups coming on...

Indeed - there's only a couple others in the showcase right now, and I was almost ready to spring for the bound rosewood-on-maple paddle-neck one and figure out how to get it cut and drilled when this guy showed up.

For someone with the skillz to handle it, this is a beautiful neck:

I just lack the tools and the confidence in my woodworking skills to go for it on such a pricey bit of kindling.

That is a nice one, but all the hard work is done. A DIY headstock is the easy part.... :headbang1:

I agree that there's not a lot of work to do there, but 280 bucks is more than I'm prepared to spend on my first trip around the track.  I'll start with something a little less pricey and work my way up.

Wish I'd seen that maple neck first. That would look great on my cherry Tele body.

You realize that's a 24.75" scale, right?

You're probably right.

This'll be a learning experience, is all I'm saying.  If it turns out not to be a good fit for me, it's not as though nobody else would want it.  I bet someone on this here board might want it at a deep discount, in fact.

I'm off to the auto parts store tonight to shop for the Duplicolor shade I'll be using on the body before I do the blue pearl coat.  Time to get another thread going over in "a work in progress" soon...
