GAS Alert!!!!

Did anyone else see the beautiful poplar pics on Facebook?

Yep - not nuts about them.  The greenish-ness of the Poplar kinda screws with the burst color in a way I don't find attractive.  But that's what makes horse-races, innit?  Of course, I also kind of object that there's been a proliferation of purple-bursts since Quty Pie was ordered; but the way I see it, none of them looks as good as Quty Pie, and the ones that do don't look so much like her.

Not that you asked.  Heh.  :toothy11:

Green woods are beautiful.
I'd take a greenish poplar with interesting grain over any flame or quilt maple every time.

I definitely like the green wood with a tobacco or black/yellow burst - just not crazy about what happens with blue and purple.

I'd be seriously interested in a shot at it, if you decide to move it off.

Me first me first! That is a seriously nice looking neck. If you end up not bonding with it there's a good chance it won't sit in the Gear for Sale section for very long. But I think you'll really love it. My LP has a 24.75" neck with stainless frets and it's an incredibly fun thing.

Yeah, I posted that a couple of pages back. When I saw the facebook posting, I had to wonder if it was because we mentioned it on the forums.  It's like, Warmoth is watching us here!

;)

But yeah, personally, I like the green and blue.  I actually like the green-to-clear on poplar more, but that latest one is a little heavy, IIRC.

Just wanted to say "you're welcome" to whomever picks this up... some idiot (me) put Macassar instead of Black ebony on his custom neck order and realized it too late, and had to pay a restocking fee. On the plus side, someone will get a very nice neck that I've already paid for part of!

I suspected that was a custom job when I saw it pop up in my RSS feed - sorry you missed the mark, but I agree - it's gonna make a sexy addition to someone's Warmoth dream axe.

That somone could have been me, but the binding is just a touch away fom my personal taste.

So why couldn't you bite the bullet and keep it? Does the Macassar clash to hard with your body?

The body's already got enough flash. The neck I wanted simple, with one concession for pearloid binding. Black ebony, black wenge, no inlays... just binding and that's it. And I figured if I already went through the trouble of ordering a custom neck, I should get what I actually wanted, rather than paying for custom and getting something that wasn't quite what I wanted.

That neck is gorgeous.  I got shot down by the finance department, so here's the link for those of you not motivated to dig it out of the photo link:

I'm not crazy about the pearloid binding with a fingerboard that busy. Of course I'm not crazy about binding in the first place, much less pearloid binding. And the headstock shoots it down just in case I could get over those issues.

They're the same wood and same color, so they'd have to sound and play the same right.  Tell you what I'll do, you buy it, build it, send the new one and old one to me, and I'll let you know.  Send me the LP too.
