To answer your original question; An advantage is that a larger and taller fret helps to get a better "grip" on, or control of the string. A disadvantage is that the wider they are, the more "cluttered" everything feels when playing above the 15th fret, since they are closer together. A narrower fret can deliver more precise intonation, provided that the player does not press to hard and cause the note to go sharp. Wider frets are less likely to have that issue. A larger fret can take more levels & re-crowns before complete replacement is necessary.
Oddly enough, I noticed this, but I didn't....if that makes sense. :icon_scratch:
I played my W (jumbo fret) back to back with my Jackson (medium fret) and it seemed beyond the 12th fret, I could play closer notes easier on the Jackson, but that could also be because it's a neck-through? And then, strangely enough, when I played the W, something just seemed easier, but I don't know what. :icon_scratch:
I have a Wizard profile neck on my W, while the Jackson is equipped with their "Speed Neck." The specs are on Jackson's website for their KV2 (King V) model. My W has a wider neck on it, but not as beefy as that of the Jackson. There are just so many things I like about each neck, I can't pick a favorite. I wish I could have all the features from both of them in one neck.
