First Warmoth Project

I fabricated the additional aluminum control cover and wire cavity cover. Took all day but I was able to finish. I still want to try the black pickguard material with the black screws when they arrive.

I need to perform some additional polishing but I think this example will provide the effect properly for visulization.

What do you guys think?

Looks great! Someday, you gotta put some strings on that baby and taker 'er out for a drive <grin>

Looks like a G-string for a guitar!    :laughing7:

Well, if most guitars didn't already have G-strings that is.

As soon as I get back from Idaho Falls I have to go to Mongolia. I probably will not get to play her or finish the setup till after the first week of August.

+1 on the black plastic. Even when the Aluminum's polished up to match the chrome, it'll all be too shiny. The black sets off the chrome better.

I still think you should try out some middle pieces that don't need screws. Maybe fab up a set with tabs on the ends that go down into the wire channel and hook under the pickup rings.

The only way it would be cooler is if the singles were all one piece.  And if you felt so inclined, I think you could sell the control cavity covers like that on Ebay.

I love how you took a front route and minimal covered the routes, Dude that's genius.  Is that your design? or did you buy all the pieces?  I've never seen that done before, Looks awesome.

Ok so I back tracked a few pages, I like the all aluminum look. you made these parts?  If you don't start mass production of this , I will.

Some chrome ( or aluminum) pickup covers would be nice too

Wow, that is different. I guess you gotta like vivid color to appreciate this one. Not a huge fan, but what ever works for you  :headbang:

Make one solid piece of aluminum for that whole set-up, make the switch/knob plate a part of it with smooth transitions and you will be done.  :headbang1:

No way Uber. He already did that with pickguard material remember. Didn't look too hot. Waaaaaay to many curves( as opposed to my too many a's ). The breaks and angles need to be there. The one piece idea could be cool but not the curves. Look back at the pic, it gave me motion sickness.

Yes it is my design I built the parts in my garage.

That was the beginning goal however the machine shop was unable to make it work. They don't build guitar stuff so they have no vision for it. I need to get a person who makes pick guards as a profession to build a one piece for me. I did everything with hand tools. I am in the process of moving everything to Idaho my buisness my job everything. Just went up to Idaho this week to buy a house. I will likely not get to finish this for a few months. I am off to Mongolia tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.  I'll be back in a few months.

Hello All,

I had to put this project on hold while I moved from New Mexico to Idaho for my new job. New house, new job, new baby = little time to build a guitar. Anyway I have started working on this project again and I have nearly completed the guitar. I have just a few things to finish up. I didn't previously thank everyone for their contributions and help. I appreciate all the comments. The last thing I need to do is have a machine shop take the aluminum plate pick guard I made and machine one from plate steel then have it chromed. I am thinking about having several made and wondered if anyone would be interested. I don't believe the cost will be ridiculous as the new town I live in has a number of machine shops, metal fab and steel suppliers in the local area. I also need to make a minor adjustment to the neck and set the intonation. I wanted to also add a picture of what I have accomplished so far.

The specs are as follows:

2010 Warmoth Custom Stratocaster; the body is a 2 pc. Swamp Ash body with an AAAA Quilted Maple top. This showcase body was named "Swamp Thing" by the folks at Warmoth. Looks awesome in person, up close it looks significantly better than the pictures on the showcase site. I installed the Warmoth custom made Vintage Modern profile, highly figured Birdseye Maple neck. It has a 9.5" radius and is a “Fat Back” with stainless steel 6230 Frets and Sprezel 25/64ths tuner holes. The machine heads I installed are Tone Pros chrome six in line Kluson’s w/ chrome locks (Kluson part number TPKF6BL-C). I also added chrome string trees on the neck which is finished with Abalone dots and a Graph-tech Black Tusq XL nut and Nitro-cellulose clear satin. Warmoth performed a magnificent job on the neck it’s flawless. The body was prepped for a Fender American standard bridge so I bought one from Warmoth before I found Callaham and DeTemple. I made the pick guard from aluminum plate with a minimalist approach. I countersunk the 5 Way switch holes and I used a V-T-T pick guard as the pattern. I installed a set of Rio Grande Dual Calibrated strat pickups with chrome covers and chrome single coil rings from Guitar Parts Resource. I added a Callaham Cryo treated 5-way switch topped with an Armadillo guitars polished aluminum barrel switch tip. I also upgraded the Fender Tremolo with a DeTemple American Standard premium titanium trem block with DeTemple titanium offset saddles. I also purchased a distressed El Dorado brown leather strap from DeTemple, Mike and his daughter Annie are very nice folks. I finished the tremolo with a Callaham David Gilmore extra short trem arm topped with a polished aluminum tip from Frets on the net. I installed three 250K Ohm Alessandro split shaft guitar pots and a NOS vintage Vitamin Q .033 Mfd tone cap I have been sitting on. I used vintage cloth-covered (waxed) wire to complete the wiring job. I added a Callaham chrome jack plate, and copper shield tape in the cavity. I used stock fender trem springs to go with a Tremolo-no till she’s properly broken in. I installed a switchcraft mono 1/4" input jack in the jack plate. I added Schaler strap locks to complete the strap. She’s strung with DR Pure Blues nickel 10’s. I picked up a G&G Premium Fender Stratocaster chocolate alligator case with tan leather trim and handle while the inside of the case is dressed in “luxurious 60’s porn” tiger stripped pale orange velvet crush.
