First order finally placed - Woo-hoo!

The carved-top LP's and VIP's and Tele's require a thick piece of lumber.  So if you go unique-choice on one of the thinner pieces, they glue that on top of an additional slice of maple to get it thick enough.  Hence, double-laminates.

The story from 2008 (last time they offered VIPs w/DL tops was that recessed controls are too risky.
I know W got a new CNC, so perhaps this one has solved the issue (?)

2008 was 4 years ago, I have no idea if any of that is relevant now.

Order update…

Warmoth have been back in touch and after some debate have confirmed that they do not wish to offer recessed controls on double laminate tops as the break through to the lower laminate would look wrong and wouldn’t be covered with the control knob.

My choices are to ditch the top and have a less figured conventional top, or lose the recessed controls.

On the basis that the PRS controls aren’t ideally placed for me any way, and the fact that the top I've chosen is simply gorgeous AAAAA quilt, I've ditched the controls all together.

It'll come blank and I'll cut my own controls exactly where I want them (within the parameters of the rear route of course) allowing me to go with volume AND tone without having to use concentric pots/knobs.

I'm pleased in a way as whilst the recessed controls are very nice, the compromise was less than perfect.

We're all good this end.  :)
