Finish on side dots.

I have a Warmoth custom build vintage tint satin maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. It´s been over a year since I got this neck, but there is one thing that has been bothering me about it. The side dots have tinted finish on them like the neck, but should be white.

Is it possible to sand it down until the finish wear off the dot area? Are the dots painted on or are they set in like the fingerboard inlays?

Dots are set in just like they are on the face of a fretboard. I'd be really careful about trying to sand through the finish... Seems a little risky to me.

I agree. You'd have to get all the finish off to eliminate the finish's color influence, and it'd end up looking a lot worse than having the dots match the neck.
