hey guys haven't posted in a while but I pulled the trigger on a L5S body and wanted all the great opinions on here to tell me how to finish it up.

Body:

Swamp ash w/quilt maple top
single F hole
2 hums
tom bridge

Im looking for a warm jazzy clean tone. very mellow and even acoustic like if possible

          so tell me........  what neck?
                                    what pickups?

what els???

im pretty much open for anything for the neck. Gibson scale possibly?? I was thinking possibly all rosewood. or some other exotic. I have two Wenge necks and love them but would like to try another wood choice so long as it gives me that warm clean acoustic like tone im after!

Mahogany with Rosewood fretboard ... :icon_thumright:

I just put a Bareknuckle Manhattan neck pickup in my Ibanez semi-hollow.  They're made specifically for mellow jazz tones, and this one sounds incredible.  I cannot say enough good things about it.  They're humbucker-sized p90's though, which turned me off at first, but i got over it as soon as i heard clips.  I recorded a neck p'up demo if you want to check it out.  The link is in my sig.

I listened to the sound clip and loved it! where would I pick up one of these babies?? and how much would it set me back? arent the Bareknuckle pickups made in the UK.

All rosewood neck.

I will sum the two posts and divided by 2, getting a "goncalo alves with rosewood fretboard" and with the Royal Sum (or whatever you call it) adding a rosewood or Walnut Burl veneer on headstock...

You can lock the thread now, Sir :P

:laughing7:
Yes, 24.75" scale...
The BKP Manhattan is great to Jazz. Think you won't regret it!
You can buy them direct from Bare Knuckle Pickups website or thru their dealers, all listed on the website...
Also some guys sell them on eBay...
Yes, made in UK

Here's the link to their site:
https://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/

The prices on there are a little misleading since they include the significant VAT tax that British citizens have to pay, so if you're in the US it will be cheaper.  I think a pair of Manhattans, shipping included, costs $270 direct from the Bareknuckle site.  Mine were a little more since i got gold covers and a different bridge pickup.  You might be able to find a US seller who sells the Manhattans a little cheaper as well.

Edit: One other thing- the Manhattans, for whatever reason, are not actually listed on the website, but if you go to their online webstore they're available.  So you can buy them, you just can't read about them.  There is, however, a BK forum where you can find tons of info and more clips of the Manhattans.  Just an FYI

ok I have decided on Gibson p94 pickups in the bridge and neck. played through them on a buddies guitar and liked them a lot.

    soooo...now I must decide on a neck.

I know mahogany/rosewood would give me the fat warm tone    BUT    what about mahogany/ebony???? would the ebony board brighten up the sound too much for what I am looking for or would it add just enough highs to ensure the overall sound of the guitar isnt too muddy????

also i plan on using 250k pots.

I think it will add more snap to the attack, but the basic character will remain. That's my understanding from the experience of other on this forum at least.

whatever you choose...take lots of pics.  Not many of those documented here.

Good luck man!

Ok I now have everything for this build.

I ordered a custom neck.

Gibson scale
Mahogany back
Goncalo Alves (unique choice)
abalone inlay
std thin
6150 frets
