I like many guitars. I always start with my strat, or something similar. and then I pick up a les paul, and I feel right at home. its like, yeah, this is the SH*T!!!!!!!! I love the carved top of a les paul, especially if its got a lovely top and nice finish. If it has a nice inlay and binding, I'm in heaven :)

I'm just the opposite. I like Les Pauls, and can pick one up and enjoy it. I like the carved top, and if it's bound all around, so much the better. But, then it's back to the Strat, which fits like an old shoe. Every 5 years or so, I gotta buy a LP and get it out of my system. It's a losing deal, but then, so's a TV or computer or car or vacation. I should buy one and when I get tired of fighting with it, put it under the bed or someplace and forget about it. Save me some money 5 years down the road <grin>

Haha you would like to do that, as we all would, but guitar players are notoriously bad at just putting a guitar away for long periods of time  :laughing7:. Why set it under the bed when we could use it to buy a guitar that WONT sit under the bed!

For my broad statement, I am a sucker for any wood, raw or oiled. In my opinion the ugliest piece of wood would always look better than the best paintjob, and I only own guitars that have at least some showing. I especially love Mahogany. Everything about mahogany is just tops.

Too true. But, those guys do exist. I have a buddy who's constantly ragging on me and my brothers for not hanging on to guitars. Other than those that have been stolen, I think he still has every guitar he's ever owned over the last 40 years, and there's quite a pile. Many of them just waste storage space, but hoarders rarely care about that. Our argument has always been the one you point out - why let something just sit there and rot when it could be used to get something that won't?

The Languadoc guitars have a somewhat interesting shape, but it's the natural woods that I think are the amazing.  I'll always be drawn to nice woodgrain, sometimes the exotic (Zebrawood is a fav), but also the "mundane" (I love regular ol' mahogany).

Les Paul and 335 shapes are my favorite, but I can appreciate a great many of the classic shapes.

+ 1 - the quasi-acoustic guitar style shapes are neat, and the symetrical 335 shape has the curvy, sexiness that says "RAWKIN" and "Classy" at the same time.  I am also (obviously) a huge fan of the quasi futuristic Gibson shapes, especially the RD, Moderne (just a little), and the Firebird.   The Firebird was described a few months ago as "an SR-71 with strings" - I can't agree more.

Basically anything that isn't overly pointy has a chance I'll like it.

Also + 1 . . . except the Musiclander/Arrow.  There's something strangely cool and retro-future about the design, and the headstock is just neat.  I'll take a 7 string fretless with a fatback, please.   :headbang1:

And the Galaxy.... yeah - Torment: you done made one AWESOME rawk masheen.   :icon_thumright:

Favorite visual guitar features:

1) Wood grain with transparent finish/stain
2) String-thru TOM but no tail piece behind the bridge
3) Big offset slanted body and long scale neck (eg Jazzmasters)

I'm looking forward to combining all my favorite elements into one custom guitar.....

Stratocaster or Telecaster.

As far as I am concerned other guitars don't even come close.
Oh paaaaaaleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease....You can't deny that this is off the chain...

I'm a sucker for black guitars with red tort pickguards and cream pickup covers.  Of which I own zero, lol.  Moreso, throw me on the visible woodgrain through a transparent finish pile.

Not that I let my guitars rot but, for lefties, it's pretty much a buy-it-and-have-it-for-life thing because they're so much harder to sell. So, I try to be pretty discerning about my purchases. I almost bought another Swede, but sense prevailed and I'm putting that money toward my Warmoth build. I love both of my Swedes, but I think -- if I were to try and nab a Select Super -- I'd need to first unload my "regular" Super, which is a great guitar I don't want to part with, so ... I guess it'll just have to wait until I've got more money and more space!

I love my LP-style Swedes, particularly the Hagstrom headstock. I think it's one of the coolest headstocks there is. I love my Strat ... but I've never had any interest in a Telecaster. It reminds me of one of those boxy old family sedans ... it's a thick slab of wood devoid of any contour, and the headstock never did much for me either. I like curvy girls, but not chunky ones. ES-335 is pure sex.

ok Elfro... I've got a squier Tele from when I first started playing, and I think it's a fair trade...

Beautiful mock up there, I can't wait to see pictures of it! I would ditch the gold and go with chrome that will get horribly rusty, but that's just me. Looks seriously great.

After seeing Gary Hoey with his custom blue strat, I've been drooling over this:

Also, my black on white strat with maple/maple. I love the starkness and contrast of the colors.

I like the Strat shape, exotic wood with a clear gloss finish contrasted with a colored finish on the back. It's a new revelation to me :) :glasses9: :toothy10:

Also like the double cutaway hollow body design - the 335.

Your GOTM is absolutely incredible, PT. I meant to post a formal congrats when I saw it last night. You did a fantastic job with wood choice, I almost spit out my whisky and screamed. It made me smile big time. So, congratulations!
