One of a kind (hopefully)!

This one started life out as a Dorado small bodied acoustic. It made some bad choices in its life but it's hanging in there!
Everything does work...sure to leave your friends and fans in a state of confusion
A true stratocoustic

I love the description: "One of a kind (hopefully)!" It is.... unique......

As modifying an acoustic to accept electric guitar pickups goes, I prefer the approach Kurt Cobain took with his Martin. I Have a Fender La Brea that has been sitting in its case for years that I've been thinking about butchering modifying similarly.  :toothy12:

Actually I believe that that's stock.  I've seen photos of '60s artists with martins like that - white knobs and everything.

and now of course google is letting me down - I can't find another photo of one!

If Cobain had modded that guitar, I would have expected him to put the knobs on the other side, rather than putting them on the right-handed side and then having to deal with fouling them with his forearm.  I'm with you, Trevor, on it being a stock Martin offering.

Here's a blogger with some info and photos re: Martin electrics, including the D28E (E for "electric"):

And there's a D18E (which is the model Cobain's playing in the photo, plus they take credit for having sold it to him) for sale here:

Here's a Martin tenor guitar with the same pickguard and white knobs from Pinterest:

Yep - that's the one.  I managed to find a photo as well

Sho 'nuff! I'll add the Reverb.com price guide  :icon_biggrin:
https://reverb.com/price-guide/guide/317-martin-d-18e-1959-natural

Good point on the knob placement, seems rather obvious in retrospect... I had focused in on the switch being in what I would considered an appropriate location for a lefty; lower bout righty didn't occur to me.

Either way, you'd think someone within the Martin organization would have been able to pull off a better job of trimming the pickguard to accommodate the pickup. I mean, really...

So given the new developments, I change my initial statement thusly: "As modifying an acoustic to accept electric guitar pickups goes, I prefer the approach Martin took with the D-18E."  :toothy11:

Reminds me of these things:

Over-amplifying an acoustic can be used to good effect - I think Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel is my favorite at this.
