contemplating about new warmoth les paul

Hi guys,

as some of you may know, I've got a shitload of les pauls at home. I'm selling at least 50% of my gibson-collection. not to fuel my gas-needs per se, but because I feel someone else will enjoy them more than I do. the necks are too thin, thats the biggest issue. oh, and no superjumbo frets, etc etc.

well, I'm acustom to warmoth, and I really dig their necks and bodies. My favorite is this one:

obviously, its a Koa top. but the back is walnut, neck is ziricote, fingerboard is macassar ebony. superjumbo frets, 6 pots (now that is, the pic is a bit old),kahler trem, 2x prails, dimarzio dactivator in the middle, soon to be triple shot rings, the whole shabang.

this one does it all. the squeecky clean funky flashy licks to meaty, balls to the walls manrock.

my question for you guys is: design a les paul for me  :toothy10: :hello2: :party07: :rock-on:

I'm a les paul addict, but only if they have something 'special', something out of the ordinary. I have absolutely no stock-les pauls here. no one is a normal standard, custom or studio. hell, I have no standards at al! should I go with the known combination of koa and walnut? I love the feel, vibe, sound and looks of this body. its the best ever, for me that is. the neck is ziricote fatback, and I want to have a neck with a similar feel, but: which neck should I go for? I have in the making bocote as a neck, pau ferro too, and I already have padouk, wenge and rosewood. canary is I think the most logical choice?

what do you guys think?

ik geloof er niks van dat jij nog een warmoth gaat maken... je haalt eerder nog een op uit engeland!!  :laughing7:

maarrrr, here goes:
Goncalo Neck, Macasar Ebony FB
Rosewood Back Body, Camphor Burl Carved Top
Gold Hardware, 3 Hum
Get W to do a F hole!
No Busy inlays this time - just something cool on the 12th position

Orpheo,

for a change,

DOUBLE CUTTAWAY LP carved top!!!!
Koa top, walnut back, cream binding, warmoth clear gloss finish
3 P90's with cream covers, you choose the brand
gold tune-o-matic, gold speed knobs
double LP toggle switching for all 7 pickup combos (this is what ill be doing in my PRS copy)
some combo of phase/series switches OR graphtech ghost bridge with 13pin and acoustic output.

warmoth headstock neck with your choise of scale and woods that go well with the look of the body
cream binding if you like, block or trap inlays

Brian

No, this time i'll go warmoth, and no doublecut, thats fugly ;)

I also already have macassar, and i prefer regular ebony, because those stripes take away the attention of the rest of the guitar. Also, nothing else than ebony. Rosewood as back is not what i want. I need a hard wood for the back and a softer one on top. I think its goimg to be an almost exact clone of my first koa lp. And yeah, more timid inlay: celtic cross, as usual!! What else?

I had a new idea.

2 options.

1: Koa top, walnut back, canary neck, ebony board, kahler trem, prails.

option 2, is 2 guitars. 1 trans blue, 1 trans green, NO inlay, no binding, just pure, clean looks and pure tone.

come on...I beg to differ.  I will say this...you have good taste on whammys

its indeed pretty, but for me, its not what I want. I only want singlecuts. well... les pauls. nothing more, nothing less :)

Good Orpheo if you're very restrictive to what you want, what's the point on asking they to suggest to you the specs of guitars? :P
You always change everything and in the end it is just your sugestions on it :toothy12:

+1 on Camphor Burl top

How about a piezo bridge?

had it, but it didn't suit my needs :P

@ no nonsense: you're rigt :P but the question just got slimmed down to 'should I make 1 koa/walnut, or 1 blue + 1 green LP? '

more is not always better, I know...but I like to 'build', but still...

I think 1 koa is more than enough at this moment ;)

for starters, one koa is cheaper than 1 blue+ 1 green. secondly, this makes my setup more symmetrical. 3rdly, for matching the colors, I'd have to use the wenge neck I have here, on the green one, purpleheart on the blue one, and a new bubinga on the tobaccoburst. but, since the wenge neck has dot inlay, I'd need the new necks to have dots aswell, and the same neckprofiles too to maintain symmetry in looks and feel.

so... thats why I prefer a koa now, and MAYBE later something else, but thats not very likely

I calculated it.

a new koa+kahler would be 1725 euro's, all included.

1 transgreen+1 transblue would be 1980 euro's, all included...

which is the wisest choice?

Flame Koa top, black binding (fromt AND back), chambered black korina back, black Floyd, 2 hums( maybe a single in the middle ). Wenge neck, ebony board, no inlays, smoked chrome Warmoth metal decal, black tuners.  :icon_biggrin:

not so shabby at all bro! but no floyd, kahler. and black binding... if I've got money to spare, maybe ;) Its too dark for me, and I dont want two necks with the same backwood. I already have wenge, but COOL idea.

Righto then, kahler, white binging and a purpleheart, or canary back of the neck. Still sounds Rawk!

purpleheart....well, sounds cool, looks cool, but the color is purple you know....that clashes a bit with the rest of the axe.
