Been wanting to do a VIP for the longest time. This is my vision. Walnut / Walnut body. Walnut / Ziricote fingerboard. Tortoise bind, neck and body. Gold hardware, frets, & inlay. Amber knobs. Metallic Honey Burst. It’s either this or a Dinkycaster build. Hmmm… 🤔

I’d be interested in seeing other’s build ideas or concepts. 🙏🎸🤘

Here's my VIP.
20221201_213303.jpg

Chambered mahogany body in firemist blue with white binding, 3a flamed maple gibson scale warmoth boatneck, cosmo black hardware, and emg57/66tws.

My best and favorite guitar ever.

My next build is going to be a metallic white alder carved top tele with tort binding, an all pau ferro warmoth gibson scale neck, chrome hardware, emg tele set with their 3 band onboard eq. It's getting a vega tele trem too!

The same attention to detail re: aesthetics applies

The purpose of this thread as I read it is for posting design ideas or concepts of a design, rather than of actual incomplete or completed builds.

Does W have a feature that shows a body with a neck? Haven't seen that before.

BTW, love the concept guitar, and also love the blue guitar

Thinking of a dinkycaster with flame maple top, maple body. flame maple neck and fretboard, black laminate ... dimarzio pups, everything in plastic black, everything metal chromed, (except pearloid tuning buttons) ten way freeway switch hardtail (maybe a gotoh maybe a chopped tele) super sized neck standard profile ... still need to part out one of the gits for seed money though, and thin the herd, as I can't play more than 7 guitars a month ---- i got the pups when dimarzio had the sale last month, (Chopper, Cruiser and Fast Track 1 25% off!) ... just a matter of time, probably this summer.

Love that build idea. I'm planning a VIP for my next one also. Was originally going to do a blue burst dye on Quilted Maple, but now I'm thinking maybe a natural wood and just oil finish.....

Vortex neck Wenge with Ebony Fretboard. Wanted all black hardware and dark neck with the blue burst, but now not sure.

When I first got interested in this stuff a couple years ago, my tastes were for the fancy flame/quilt tops and flashy finishes, but now I'm more into simpler, plainer looking things. I think Aaron said something similar in one of the vids. Anyway, that said, I still kinda want this:

I've just always really liked the way that Bengal Burst looks. Satin finish. Ebony fretboard with MoP inlays and a reverse headstock. White pickups and plastics, chrome hardware. I did a Gotoh 510 for the pic but who am I kidding, with that top it'd have a Floyd.

Nope. We can't.

Showing bodies and necks together as a "guitar" or a "kit" is taboo for us, as far as Fender headstock shapes are concerned.

  1. Put this over the headstock
  2. ?
  3. Profit

It’s the weekend, time for another design rattling around in my head. I call this the Full Moon. Don’t think there is a need to censor the head. Also, using background removal / screen shots and splicing the builds together from the builder. 😉 It’s a little frustrating that the fingerboard doesn’t go the full length but I managed to duplicate the end of the board to replicate how it would actually look.

Walnut Body, 5A quilt top, cream bind
Canary, pau ferro, cream bind neck
SS6150 frets, moon glow night swan.

I think it should be called turtle burst rather than dragon. 🐢 🐉

I have definitely decided I want to do my next build with a Rosewood top and just a Danish Oil finish, and I have narrowed it down to 2 different builds I want to do. And with Roasted Swamp Ash core wood:

A Soloist body 'Super Strat' with HSS configuration and Floyd Rose

A VIP body with 2 Humbucker, no middle and wrap around bridge.

Was really leaning toward the VIP and wanting to make a super classy guitar, similar to a PRS double cut, but the builder does not offer Rosewood as a top wood. After playing around with the builder on various bodies, it seems it is not offered on any carved top body. Is there a reason for this, and certain combinations of construction type and wood choice offered ?

OK, so I answered my own question. Rosewood is not offered (along with certain other woods) on DL tops because of availability for the thicker sub laminate needed. I wasn't sure if there was any off-menu options, but apparently whatever lam wood is listed are your only choices on Carved Tops.

Sorry if this was a stupid question, but I guess I'll leave it here if it helps anyone else......
