Building my first body.

I hope that works out. It would be good to know where to get proper templates. StewMac apparently just orders them from middle school woodshop classes where they have yet to be taught the mysteries of measuring devices and the importance of dimensional integrity.

Those things do not matter on geetars. It's all about the mojo. Everyone knows that.

Mojo is important, I'll give you that. But, what you really need are nice, sexy tone worms.

Look, but don't touch!

The unenlightened call them "Sea Monkeys", and that's often how they're marketed, but that's just plain iggernant. These are sea monkeys...

Show us your tits!

As you can see, they're not very polite so they don't sound good at all.

Damn it Cagey ... STOP ALREADY!!!  :toothy12:

Laughing so hard I nearly pissed myself!  :o

Control cavity finished today.
(I had to buy a longer bit to route the cavity as deep as it needed to be.)

I'll post pics of the forearm contour I'm working on when I'm satisfied with it. :blob7:

Btw, Ty, aren't you from Columbus Ohio?

Is the grain kinda pale and streaky, or is it torn out at the end about three inches up from the cavity on the back, at the right edge of the photo?

If you mean back by where the rear strap peg might be mounted, I see what you're saying. Looks like some bad tear-out there. But, if he's gonna paint it a solid color, it'll be easy enough to repair.

It's the grain. Some parts of the wood have white streaks. Alder really isn't a pretty wood.  :dontknow:

The forearm contour is looking good so far. :)

Are you rear-routing the pickups as well?  Also, are you going to use a hardtail bridge?

Rear-routed pickups? They will be direct-mounted, if that's what you mean.

I'll be routing for a recessed Floyd Rose.

Yeah, wow, I'm not honestly sure what I meant - late night posting FTL.  But yes, I was just curious about how you were mounting the pickups.  Looking forward to more!

Ok, I'm working on the tummy cut contour, and it's definitely a bit harder than the forearm contour.

Here is what I have so far:

I think it should be good if I just work on sanding down the middle part, near the streaky area, to get a nice curve.

Looking good! I got to take a look at my neck pocket template that I got today and it looks pretty good. It is from aiguitars on ebay and has strat and tele pockets. They are both a little oversized, but the tele is more oversized. However, I can only check the start one against a squier neck that I have, which I had to mess around with to even fit in the Warmoth pocket. So we will see what happens when I get a Warmoth strat neck. Just knowledge for knowledges sake.

Side note, I got tons of scrap off of the Walnut pieces. :icon_biggrin:

(The darker pieces are oiled.)

Looks great! I think I might soften the edges a little more so the transition from side to front or back isn't quite as abrupt, but you don't have to. It's not like there's anything there that's going to dig into you.

Yeah, I want a bit more roundover on the edges of the contours. It takes a while to sand it in, since I can't just use a roundover bit to rough it out.

I might work on the area by the horn a little bit, as well. I had the body clamped to my workbench while I filed, and the clamp was in the neck pocket area, so it kind of limited my freedom with the file in that area.

The Flamed Maple for the accent line came today, and oh what glory to behold!

This is probably going to piss some people off that I'm going to be coving all but the sides up, and I must admit, it's a shame to cover this up, but hell, I ordered "low grade" Flamed Maple from a supplier for only $25 shipped, and this is what they sent me! :icon_biggrin:

That doesn't mean you have to waste it. You got a great luck-of-the-draw thing there at a great price. Save it for another project, and order something more appropriate.
