Black Korina: UN-filled grain. Yay or nay?

To fill or not to fill: that is the question!

I'm going back and forth between ordering a MAPLE neck for my new guitar, or getting a KORINA neck to match the body.  Is un-filled korina really crappy to play on?  Really bumpy?  Or not too bad?

The neck will probably have 4-5 coats of clear satin on it.

I have a korina neck that I filled and did a tru-oil finish on which I love.  Can't speak directly to what an unfilled neck would feel like, but with a few coats of satin I would imagine it wouldn't feel much different than something like a raw wenge neck which has an open grain to it.

It'll be interesting to see what others think on this one and if anybody has actually gone that route with a Korina neck.

My other option is to do a Maple Neck, and a black Korina headstock overlay... I'll most likely take this route, as it seems the easiest, and will result in a great looking matching headstock/body.
