Black Korina Jazzmaster - 1st Warmoth Build

"And the wind... cries... e-bon-ee...." dum-dum-dum....

That bod looks great, as woody as a good piece of swamp ash. That neck looks good too, just, umm, you need another guitar for it. Don't worry, this often happens. Sometime just an extra switchplate needs a whole new guitar.

Hey I reckon the JM looks great......Good finishing job.

I  wish to ask though, where did you place the battery and the new EMG buss system? In between the two pots and the toggle switch, underneath the pickguard?

That's exactly where I put it - I didn't have any problems with this

On the buss board, there are screw down terminals at the end for the swtich. Three are labelled BR, NK, and O (for bridge, neck, and output). If you connect wires from BR and NK to O, it will be as if both pickups are switched on.

I'll try that and see if it works - I know I have all the other parts done exactly right and it's not working

I think, from memory of doing a complex EMG install recently myself, that the plugs on one of the volume pots has to be reversed. The arrow etched on the plug has to be facing upside, opposite to what is on the corresponding plug on the other plug...Why not solder/screw in the toggle instead of doing that temp. intsall where both pickups are always on?

I've kind of changed my mind about the selector switch completely now and want both pickups to always be on - I'm just leaving the 3-way switch in so there isn't just a hole in the pickup.

I just put the wires in the green block from the B & N to the O to make both pickups be on, but the Volume Pots are still not controlling the volume of each pickup. I turn then both down and it's still the same exact volume.

I need to look into the one volume pot connection being reversed, because I did not do that.

that's a sharp looking body.  not sure on the white EMGs or the yellow maple neck though.

I'm pretty sure everyone isn't into the yellow neck and ivory pup covers - I like it so oh well haha.

Diagram 7 here should be pretty close to what you want:

http://www.emgpickups.com/content/wiringdiagrams/H_0230-0106D.pdf

I used that exact setup with no problem.

Why is the one wire black near where it splits coming from the bridge pickup? I didn't have any wires that have black like that one. I also don't want to use a tone pot, is that causing any problems? At this point I'm probably just going to solder the wires in for the 3-way toggle and see what happens. I just want these damn volume pots to work so I can turn down each pickup individually - I don't care at all about having any tone pot whatsoever.

The black part on the wire doesn't mean anything. I think they just put it there so you could see where the bridge pickup goes.

Go over every connection and make sure that it is in the right place and the black and white wires are the right way around. You can leave out the tone control, just take the connection from the buss board direct to the output jack. I don't know why you wouldn't want the switch, but you shouldn't need it if you connect the terminals the way I suggested. I'm actually surprised that it worked at all without doing that. Probably a clue there.

If that doesn't work, post a picture of you controls and I'll check if I can see a problem.

I'll wire the switch up and double check how I have everything else setup tonight. Thanks for all of the help!

So I soldered the 3-way switch & connected everything else EXACTLY like these two diagrams below and the switch and volume tones don't work - it plays - but none of the controls work at all.

I remember EMG being very helpful via e-mail with questions, etc. when I first used their stuff - just e-mail them regarding your issue and I'm sure they can walk you through things.

I just sent them an email - hopefully they can help me figure this out. I've got a friend who is a guitar tech for a living but I want to try and figure this stuff out on my own

To anyone who cares - I found out what I did wrong with the wiring - I had the black & white output wires reversed & I accidentally soldered the output wire on the 3-way switch to where the ground should have been soldered (sent pics of the setup to EMG & they helped me out)

I brought the guitar to work along with my parts/supplies toolbox and fixed it but will have to wait until this evening to see if it worked, so fingers crossed!
