MULLY
the Hendrix was for my friend

Damn Mully those are Bad Ass!!!  you got some nice taste in your choices....makes me want to order some new ones....lol

Congrats on winning the February contest Mully!!!

my latest update.....finished up the electronics, and aged the hardware to better match the antiqued tuners, as well as rolled the fretboard edges and smoothed and shaped the nut. I also took off the gloss on the neck finish and it feels silky smooth now.

I know alot of people would freak at the thought of taking a pristine looking guitar and giving it a hack job like I did, but I really dont like a guitar till its "Mine", and for me that means making it feel and look broken in and used even if it never leaves my house, I want to pick it up and have it feel like I've played on it for years, and this one is getting there.....lol

Once my Peterson Strobe tuner arrives Im gonna do the setup and smooth out any rough edges at the bridge, and cut the nut slots to fit my strings and install a graph tech string tree, Im also gonna switch out the pickup covers and knobs etc. for some Fender aged parchment colored ones and install a vintage bone nut that matches.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/theoneandonlymechris/0102.jpg[/IMG]]    ....this is after, now it better matches the antiqued tuners.....

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/theoneandonlymechris/0042.jpg[/IMG]]   ......The nut and neck edges are nice and comfortable now, I should have applied some stain to the exposed wood along the neck edges but I probably wont, Im really just interested in it being very comfortable and am glad it no longer looks all shiny and new, but is becoming a players guitar instead, though I did apply oil and will do so daily for a few weeks.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/theoneandonlymechris/Black%20Cat%20Strat/almost%20finished/029.jpg[/IMG]]   .... this is the Nut and edges before .....

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/theoneandonlymechris/0052.jpg[/IMG]]   .....the rolled edges may not look great but it sure feels better on the hands, Im gonna see if an oil based stain will penetrate the oil I already rubbed in and color it some, if that dosnt work Im thinking dirt and grime will be just fine over time.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k278/theoneandonlymechris/004-1.jpg[/IMG]]   ....Its no longer shiny or as pretty as it was now that I took the gloss off the neck, but it sure is smooth and silky feeling.

That turned out really nice. I'm not a fan of the creepy cat on the neckplate but that's why it's your guitar. The tinted and FLAMED neck is AWESOME with the gilmour colors...

Alright, Superbeast, I did not want to bring up old shitee, but you better not let this one get away. If you do, I'm going to come and find you and slap some sense into you.

Interesting that you prefer the rolled edge on the neck. I've always liked the sharp feel of a new guitar.
MULLY
looks good though

hey Louie, thats ok I deserve that one.... I got mad at my ex and being Irish I got nutty and chucked it all, but not on this one, thats why I kept it simple and made a strat, it always bothered me that the last one wasn't a Strat strat but I dont have any reservations on this one, and I have been kickin my self in the ass daily after the last guitar so I think I learned my lesson...lol

well... that neck, is pure PORN!  :headbang:
I love it!

Can't wait to see my dadcaster (a tribute to dad) when it comes together! I'm going for a couple of callaham parts aswell

nice! i'm a fan. simple and effective. thought about maybe getting a black/white/black pickguard for it? otherwise i'm a big big fan of this build! that pickguard just sort of blends into the body really easily. of course maybe thats some of the draw to it too  :icon_biggrin:

I actually have a really nice looking mint green pickguard that came with the Callaham pickup assembly and it does look nice on this guitar, but I spent a month straight going nuts trying to figure what the guitar should look like, and after many sleepless nights the Gilmour Guitar kept popping up on my screen, and it just seemed right to me....I was actually able to rest once I had decided on doing the Gilmour guitar sans a few personal details so I knew it was the right way to go on this one.

I also wanted a guitar that wasnt too pretty or fancy but made for jamming, and this one works for that.  I have the bridge routed for a humbucker should I decide to fatten it up a bit, so this one is real versatile.

On the Plus side I now have the Mint Green pickguard for the next strat which will be a Jimi Hendrix 69 white strat with a 70's style headstock, though Im not sure if I will go as far as getting a lefty body and setting it up upside down or not, though it would be way cool like that so we'll see....

Who knows,... if I can keep it all together maybe I can build one for all my favorite guitar heros..... Hendrix, Stevie Ray and Rory Gallagher, any way I got the Gilmour for now.
