I ordered a Strat body, and would like to order a 37mm big block from Floyd upgrades. Does anyone have any experience with this as far as the block hitting the pocket? Will i need to make cuts or will i be able to put it in and do full dives, etc. without cutting the pocket?

It's not floating btw. I'm building a EVH Franky,

Thanks for any help,

Van

Noone has any idea if im going to have to cut floyd insert pocket for this?

My guess is you'll have to cut the pocket, but I don't currently have anything here with a Floyd on it that I can measure. It also depends on what you call a "full dive", what kind of bridge is on the guitar now and what kind of relief has already been cut, which you don't mention.

But, if you look at a Fender block, you'll notice it has some relief cast into it. If the replacement part you're looking at is even the same thickness but without the relief, you'll need to cut, and if it's thicker, you'll need to cut more. If the body's already cut for a Floyd, you may be able to get away with doing nothing. Dunno. There's not enough information in your question to say anything for certain.

I dont have the body yet. I ordered it through Warmoth for a floyd with angle pocket. Strat Body...Non Recessed. Just wondering if anyone had ordered this type of body and tried to drop a big block in it.

If it was me, I'd just install the standard Floyd to see what it sounds like before you start throwing money at a bigger block. Plus, if you decide there nmay be magic in a new block, you'll be able to see what kind of clearances you have and decide if you'll need to make any adjustment in the cavity size.

No worries, I have W 'strat replacement' body with a 37mm brass block on my Floyd and it clears just fine. Full
dives and pull-ups are no issue. The stock block on my Schaller FR was like 42mm, and just dropping it into the
(recessed) rout it easily protruded out the back end of the guitar - so I ordered the 37mm. However, once everything
was installed and set-up to playing specs (bridge height, etc.) I think even the 42mm would have fit OK without
problems. Dunno if your surface mount would change the angles as far as the block hitting the body tho I doubt it. YYMV.

Oh, theres definetly magic there Cagey - after I bought my block, its a night and day difference from my other Floyd-equipped axes
(which are all of them  :icon_biggrin:). If my DM strat wasn't the Ultimate Guitar(tm) - aka if I played my other guitars anymore - I'd
definetly upgrade all the blocks on my other Floyds, and the Raw Vintage trem springs too...
