Not trying to instigate the whole Gibson vs. Agile thing, but has anyone seen this?

A maple fretboard...on a Goldtop?! Blasphemy, I know. :laughing7: Obviously I'm kidding, but in all honesty, I don't really care for the look of it, especially with the MOP inlays.

I actually love a nice birdseye maple fretboard, but I agree that MOP + light wood = not a fan, and seeing any kind of maple board on a goldtop makes me die a little inside.

But the Gospel According to Zakk Wylde states that Les Pauls with maple necks "are harder to break when you fall over." There was a brief period in the 1990s where listeners were having trouble "telling metal guitarists apart" so every little bit helped.

Very happy with my maple/maple neck.  Looks gorgeous, plays better.

Had the inlays been a different color, I don't think it would look too bad, but either way, if you're going for looks, a goldtop with a maple neck isn't the most attractive combo out there...

I love maple/maple on a guitar suited by the look ... but on that Gold Top, it looks ... naked. Or skinned. Like someone skinned the beautiful rosewood board off, leaving only the inlays and the bare maple underneath. Not a fan, in this case.

Gibson just came out with some LPs with maple necks, and they strike me as odd.  It isn't that they look bad, but I'm just not used to seeing them.  I just can't get over the light-colored neck on an LP.  :icon_scratch: :dontknow: :icon_scratch:

For some reason, I just find the LP with a maple neck to look uh...I dunno the word; not "cheap," but uh...just not an LP.

OK, it is not a secret I do not play LPs, it is just a preference thing, I have own 2, I just do not like them, I love 335s however.

So I looked at that pic and said, "Different"

But the more I look at it, the more I like it. I just do not know if it will give that fat LP tone. But then, I prefer the sharper clearer single coil Fender sound. And maybe that is why I have never liked LPs

I know I play the 335 mainly for rhythm, so maybe a maple neck might give you more snap to the humbuckers and sound better.

Just a few thoughts

I love the beefy neck of an LP, and I love the way they sound, but what I DON'T love is the weight of them.  Because of the weight, I just can't like them.  As for the LP shape, I'm on the fence about it.  I have a much stronger fondness for pointy guitars than those of "reserved" designs.

Pair that maple neck with a black body and put some black inlays on it, then we'll talk ... but the gold top with MOP on a maple neck, forget about it.

Look in Musician's Friend, I believe they have one just like that.  :cool01:

Nope. Couldn't find a left-handed black LP with a maple/maple neck ... if that's what you were suggesting. If you mean the much more common, say, Standard Strat, sure ...

Dunno about a lefty, but I know I saw LPs with maple necks in Musicians Friend.  :occasion14:

It does kinda have that turkey-loaf food product on Wonderbread with mayo kinda vibe.... good for the "Carpenters Medley" portion of the show.
