Well I've finally started this build  :blob7:  and need a tip on which way the pup's should be !!

SD Dimebucker Bridge
SD Hot & Cool Rails either neck or middle  :dontknow:

Of cause the SD Dimebucker is in the Bridge (with a SD Triple Shot)

Since the Dimebucker is a Hot pickup, as too is the Hot Rails.

Would it be best to put the Hot Rails in the Middle position ?
As I'm thinking it would be to powerful in the Neck posy.
Or doesn't it matter ?  :dontknow:

Thanks.  :icon_biggrin:

Progress so far.

Back and front Ferrules … Done
Strap Buttons … Done
Holes drilled for Humbucker height adjust screws to fit into original wood mount rout.
(No legs on a Dimbucker, so that was easy)
Tuners …. Done
Dimebucker attached to Triple Shot
Pickups mounted to mount rings
Pickup mount ring holes drilled

Next up, mount pups, do wiring & input jack  :icon_biggrin:

Plus top it off, a Dougie Custom neck plate  :icon_thumright:

Due to backyard flooding, here downunder  …  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpq4tvsFB2A  :toothy12:
No recent out door pic's

Some boring progress pic's

Nobody likes a showoff, Updown.

But we sure do envy one who gets it done right.

Very nice work, sir.

Nice work, Mr. Updown.

I'm curious why you drilled relief holes for the humbucker's height adjustment screws rather than just shorten the screws. You can't lower the pickup below the floor of that cavity, so there's no point to the longer screws.

Not that it makes any difference to anything, it just seems like unnecessary work.

Thanks all  :icon_biggrin:

I ended up going with the Cool Rails in the Neck & Hot in the Middle (can change about if needed to)
Pickups mounted ..done
Wiring 90% ... done
Jackplate ... done

Yep good point Cagey  :icon_thumright:  and my excuse is ....
I had mounted the Dimebucker to the Triple Shot..
Then thought   you idiot I haven't cut back the screws. (forgot)
Then the easiest thing to do & reach for was the drill.
By doing the small drill holes so the height adjust screws would fit snuggly, it actually lined up the mount ring perfectly too.

Thats my lame excuse & I'm sticking with it  :icon_biggrin:
As you said doesn't really matter.

Wonder why there is so much taken when they rout out so much for Hum Bridge mounted (probably for different pups)  :dontknow:

hI see it has straplocks after all. Nice guitar. Will it have a 13 pin jack?

Thanks ...
YEP all my guitars NOW have Schaller Strap Locks. (thanks to all you people here)  :icon_thumright:
NO 13pin GK-3 on this one, that's in next up build, using Scartozi Bridge  :icon_biggrin:

Because they've been building humbuckers with offset mounting tabs since forever.

I've never heard a good reason why.  There's no adjustment height, clearance or mechanical advantage to it.

Progress pic's continued …. slowly
I'm taking my time with this one  :icon_biggrin:  and awaiting arrival of Dougie plate  :icon_thumright:
I wish I had the brains at the time to get a 1/2'' side jack hole

Just would've finished it off so much better ..... Oh Well that's life !!

So I went with the pointed football jackplate (to match the pup rings) similar angles.
In link, bottom middle .... http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/jackplates_football.htm
Rather than the normal oval football plate.

Nice work, but that unshielded WWII-era wire running to the output jack is gonna pick up a lotta noise...

Thanks ... Now point me in the right direction, for the best wire for that.

I have used that on others & don't get any noises  :icon_scratch:
Have tried mic cable before, Oppps I mean headphone cable, no different to what i'm using here.

This is why I show pic's, as then someone might steer me in the right direction  :toothy11:

Thanks  :icon_thumright:

That wire will be fine. You have had previous success with it. Why second guess your self? Use what you like. You ate doing an awesome job. This guitar is looking great.

I'm sorry - I shouldn't criticize and then not offer a solution. What you want is shielded cable, such as this...

Shielded_Push-back_Wire_-_16_inches_sm.jpg

I'm sure you can get that stuff closer to home, but if you can't, they also sell it in 50' reels so you won't run out after doing half a guitar...

Shielded_Push-back_Wire_-_50_feet_sm.jpg

As you might expect, that's more economical as well.

Another thing you might consider doing, although it's not nearly as effective, is simply twisting the existing lines...

wirecut.jpg

Obviously you can't do that for short interconnects, but between the pickups and the controls and between the controls and the output jack you can.

:laughing7:  Love how you phrase things hahaha.  But!  He's correct.  Use shielded cable, please.

Thanks guys  :icon_biggrin:

Thanks for direction Cagey  :icon_thumright:
So should I use that type of wire on all my earth runs ?

Yeah I know Bagman ... great price I reckon !! .... very tempting  :headbang1:

Your vintage wire is great for everything but the hot wire from the jack to your volume pot.

Ahrrr … Got it now  :icon_thumright:  thanks

Shall get to that, as I haven't yet wired pups up yet either.

Anyway ...
I had these Black Knobs, with a little indent in them as a marker. (even has made in japan on them)
Something simple !!
I just put a little White paint in there so as it stands out more. … finishes that part off well.
