Meanwhile, at Warmoth..."Maple Core Custom" limited edition *sets*

Wow, amazing. I'd love to see this on a Gecko bass.  :)

Meanwhile, at Warmoth...solid Bubinga Gecko body

Wow, nice.  And they ordered the "turbo" pickup placement as well!  Exactly what I would have done.  :) I have a similar bubinga body.  I'm going to guess 7 pounds.

    Gecko hard shell case

Fender's new ABS molded cases seem to work just fine.  I bought one a little while ago and tested it out this evening with one of my Gecko basses, and it fit pretty much perfectly. Granted, there's a bit of extra space around the body (since P and J basses are a bit more bulbous) but it didn't...

    First Warmoth... Gecko medium 5

Excellent choice of woods! Hey, that's the EMG MM5TW pickup that you've chosen, correct?  I have one that I'm not using any more.  PM me your shipping address, and I'll send it to you.  :)

December 2013 Guitar of the Month Contest Submissions

So is SUE, and the Strat with the Bocote pickguard, and... yeah.  Everything is nice.  It's good to see so many really nice entries this month.  I honestly don't know how to vote.  :)

    GECKO - opinions needed please...

I think it was made in early 2010.  I saved a copy of the images from their website in April of that year.  I remember it was in the showcase for at least a few weeks.  I don't know anything behind the neck lamination, other than it was very different from anything I had seen before...

    GECKO - opinions needed please...

Yep, I remember this bass as it "made the rounds" several times on Talkbass, through varying stages of modification.  I almost bought that neck when it was sitting in the Showcase for a while.  :) I agree with 'ihnpts'.  I like the look of the white pickguard (as well as the shape) and it's...

G4: From black to Korina - to DIY chambering

MortenB, that's some very nice work.  The knobs of pau ferro look perfect. Do you have a name for the bass yet?  :)

Are there items of clothing/accessories you won't compromise on?

I'll skimp on pretty much anything *except* comfortable shoes and my Utilikilts.

    Moving a couple items

    I'm tempted.

    Fretless body wood?

Black Korina might be a bit lighter than Walnut.  It depends on the tree.  I've found that it has a nice midrange-rich tone, similar to Mahogany.  It will sound very nice with a stiff neck wood such as Wenge.  I'm not sure I have tried that combination yet, but it should be very nice.
