How does the contoured heel work?

I'm trying to figure out the geometry with the contoured heel option. If the plate is at an angle, but the screws go in straight, do the screw heads not sit flush with the plate? Is it a screw with a small head and a movable washer/collar? Just not sure. It seems like a neat option. I keep...

    Contemplating a Tele build

Long time no post! I've got GAS and after noodling around at the centers of guitar, I was thinking of a Telecaster. And if I'm thinking Telecaster, well, that's THE roll your own guitar, right? I liked the tummy cut on the Elite model but didn't care for the pickups, liked this but not that...

Deciding on a neck for my Jaguar

I'm having second thoughts about the fatback profile. I'm worried it will be too much. I folded up some paper strips and put it on the back of my guitar neck to get an idea. I think I might go for the '59 instead.

Deciding on a neck for my Jaguar

I can't find the exact dimensions for the tuners currently on my Jaguar neck. I would assume since it's built in Mexico it would feature the same 10mm holes that the MIM Strats have. Not knowing for sure (and not wanting to worry about drilling holes for prongs) I decided I would go for the...

Deciding on a neck for my Jaguar

Hey everybody, I've got one of the P90-equipped Fender Blacktop Jaguars and I've been slowly upgrading it over time. Right now it's stock alder body, Lollar P90s (5% overwound bridge), 500k audio taper pots, 0.022uf cap. Played through a Vox AC4TV. I'd like to get a new neck for it so I've...

    Blacktop Jaguar

Guess I didn't make myself clear. I like the TOM bridge on the guitar right now. That's one of the reasons I bought it. However, it seems to make things difficult in finding a "ready to go" body for it. Warmoth's body builder does not have an option on the Jaguar body for a TOM/stop bridge...

    Blacktop Jaguar

Or could I use a Jazzmaster body? Would the bridge routs be the right placement for the 24" scale?

    Blacktop Jaguar

I wound up buying a Fender Jaguar recently, the Blacktop model with P90s. It's a pretty cool guitar, but as always, I want it to be better. Better in this case means lighter. From what I can see online the Fender body is thicker than the Warmoth version by about 1/4". Would I see a significant...

So what would this sound like?

Hey, whatever fret size Fender uses on the Standard Tele is fine by me. I had an American Special Strat with the jumbos, and those were way too dang big. And as archaic as it may be, I've got a soft spot for the 3-barrel bridge. I'm still on the fence between making this guitar and just straight...

So what would this sound like?

I'm learning so much. Cool. What I liked about the Rickenbacker I played, and maybe it was just that particular one, but the neck felt kind of U-shaped, a little thicker than a Les Paul I used to have that had a supposed "50s style" neck. I certainly like the idea of a thicker neck than normal...

So what would this sound like?

Okay, 500K pots, stainless steel frets, 47 capacitor... Are people pretty happy with the boatneck profile? I played a new Rickenbacker 330 that had a pretty good feel to the neck, not sure of what profile it had.

So what would this sound like?

Okay. So a neck plate from DangerousR6 - just send an IM? Website? I've never soldered before, never assembled a guitar before. I guess I could wuss out and fob it all off on a luthier to put it together or I could give it a shot myself. Are 250K pots fine, or bump up to 500K? 47 or 22...

So what would this sound like?

After lots of cogitation, I think this is what I've come up with as far as the build I'd like to do. Goal is for a lighter weight Telecaster (my current one weighs 8.4 lbs) that's comfortable to play and sounds good - like a 1950s kind of good - when played through a Vox AC4TV. Body Warmoth...

So what would this sound like?

How's the Warmoth satin finish vs gloss? I've got a Classic Vibe that's polyester gloss and I'm not too big a fan of the feel. I liked the finish on my American Special Strat, some kind of satin polyurethane. The Warmoth satin looks like a bare neck.

So what would this sound like?

Let's take another combination I had in mind. Chambered alder Tele body, maple boat neck, 3-barrel bridge and some Broadcaster style Tele pickups. Looking for something light, a touch of warmth/presence, but still Telecaster.
