I'll take some outdoor pictures tomorrow afternoon, my camera is pretty shit in low light
Annoyingly I snapped my drill bit when drilling the threads for the floyd nut screws (top mount) - I should be able to get the snapped part out with some small tweezers, but still... very annoying!
I'll...
Well I've finally had this finished by Andy at Guyton Guitars (http://www.guytonguitars.com) and it looks amazing, my crappy camera pictures really don't do it justice
Black grain filler
Red stain
Masked binding
Black nitro back
Very slight black burst over (this really brings it together)...
I'm going to be doing something very similar to this and I'm worried the same thing will happen - does anyone know of a way to stop this from happening? I read somewhere doing 1 or 2 coats of sanding sealer before grain filling would do the job, but then someone said it wasn't necessary?
I'm comfortable with the natural binding, I did it on my strat and it came out great! What I don't want to happen is the black filler to dye the wood - does that make sense?
Did you use sanding sealer before you applied the grain filler? I'm not too sure but I think this is needed to stop the filler staining the wood itself.
Hi Guys,
I just want to run through how I'm going to finish my tele and would like to hear your opinions regarding the process. And I need to be told if I'm doing it wrong!
1. 1 or 2 coats of sanding sealer
2. Black grain filler (as many coats as it takes) with sanding back
3. Mask out natural...
Yup, it's carved top - gonna stain it black with either natural masked binding and satin nitro or just completely black with a wax finish - can't decide

I finally got a neck plate so I could bolt the 2 together. Can't wait to finish this!
To be perfectly honest that sounds nothing like the so called 'brown sound'. Here's what I think is needed to get even remotely close:
Any amp from Splawn: http://www.splawnguitars.com (basically a hot rodded plexi)
a Marshall 1960x 4x12 loaded with v30's
Any heavy wooded (mahogany based)...
