I'm reviving this zombie thread to ask simple question:
How do you like indian rosewood neck shaft? I bet you can compare it to "traditional" wenge or maple one. I see there are still few IR neck on showcase, either with "standard" ebony or more extraordinary ziricote fretboard.
Hmmm, white with wenge/bloodwood neck might be pretty sick. I wonder how would white Gecko body look. This combination sounds more adequate for jazz basses or similar...

I'd say Pau Ferro's somewhere between the two. It really depends on the very piece of wood - like I've seen very dense and closed grain rosewood which was almost like ebony too. But generally Pau Ferro is definitely smoother and more closed than Rosewood.
Do I get it right that "too glossy = a lot of layers"? If this was true, I wouldn't be afraid of it :-) I'd like to keep it simple and easy (4-5 layers maybe, just a wild guess).
This is just wild fantasizing for this moment, but I'm gathering all the informations I can before I make the order.
I'm thinking of swamp ash body with wenge top finished in tung oil. I'd rather avoid filler to keep "grain structure of wood" but I'm really not sure if it's wise idea.
