Too True, or not to Tru?

I've spent a lot of time in the Chesapeake area so familiar with that humidity. I live in Austin TX and it's plenty HOT and humid here. I'm no expert but I've done hand rubbed finishes on several necks (only one body) with Formby's "Tung Oil". I always did it inside with air conditioning (in a...

    Chips in the Warmoth Finish

Like I said, I'm OK with it but it does raise my curiosity.  I like there to be a logical explanation for things. In 30+ years of gigging I've never had a chip like this that I have no explanation for and any other chip this size definitely had a ding in the wood as well. Mine happened months...

    Chips in the Warmoth Finish

Had the same experience with this one, a substantial chip that mysteriously appeared right at the masked binding. Mine happened at a gig and it's possible that someone banged it but didn't tell me. I'm not that upset about it but can't help but wonder if there is something about masking that...

    '54 Z-Caster

Cool Project, I missed this one until now. On the topic of pickups, I prefer hum canceling. The DiMarzio Area series is excellent and the 58 is my favorite. I love them in the neck and middle (although the 67 is a great middle also). I prefer a hot/fat bridge pickup so even the Area 61 is not...

    Firecaster/Fenderbird

That stuff went pretty quick didn't it?  I sure didn't NEED another neck but I like the Firebird headstock and it had my favorite fret size and neck profile. When I saw it I jumped on it fast...

    Firecaster/Fenderbird

I've had this body for a while but picked up this Firebird neck when Warmoth was discounting the Gibson stuff. Maple/Rosewood, 59 Roundback profile, 6150, Sperzels. I do like the angled head stock, good string tension that feels very solid in the nut.  I've struggled a bit getting optimal tone...

59 vs SRV profile. Anyone played both?

Agreed. That's why I was asking. I'll probably stick with a 1-5/8" 59 profile, that one is about perfect for me.

59 vs SRV profile. Anyone played both?

Exactly. I went for a 1-5/8" 59 profile from the showcase and loved it. Some of my thinnest necks (one Fender, one Warmoth) I can hardly stand at this point. I definitely do a "bad form" thumb position. So should I just stay with the 59 or is the SRV worth a try? Again thanks everyone for...

59 vs SRV profile. Anyone played both?

Thanks for the replies guys. My first Rosewood 59 is 1-5/8" and I love it. I was thinking go with  1-11/16" on the SRV. I welcome any other experiences people can share.

59 vs SRV profile. Anyone played both?

Thanks for the reply. Compared to the 59 the SRV feels too thin at the lower frets? I like the 59, I don't really want anything fatter than that.

59 vs SRV profile. Anyone played both?

The 59 Roundback profile has been my favorite since I got my first all Rosewood neck (59 Roundback of course). I have 3 of them now, the 59 profile makes my old standard thin necks feel wimpy in comparison. :)  I'm considering trying an SRV, anyone own both?  I'd love to hear comparisons, I...

All Rosewood, had to buy another one

My current favorite Strat is this one. MJT aged nitro alder body, Warmoth rosewood neck ('59 roundback profile. 1 5/8" nut), Sperzels, GFS steel block trem with Graphtech saddles (and nut). Duncan Hot Rails bridge (series/parallel/variable split on the "tone" knob), Dimarzio Area '58 middle and...

Does the top wood make a difference?

I know many people argue that you could put the electronics on anything and it will sound the same, my experience is otherwise. Anyone else deliberately tried to "duplicate" a guitar? I built a backup for my main gigging Strat and was surprised at how different they sounded with exact same...

Which Wood for H/H Strat with Maple/Maple Strat Neck?

Basswood is one I have not tried yet. I might have to put it on my list, I think I need a Korina body first though :)

Which Wood for H/H Strat with Maple/Maple Strat Neck?

After trying a variety of body woods, I found I like alder best for Stats. Lollar Imperials are fantastic (I have them in 2 guitars currently). I like lower output and/or split/parallel wiring in the neck position. YMMV...
