New builder needs lots of wiring help

Thanks everyone. Yeah those pictures make sense. I couldn't identify the pickups in my schematic, but it seems that it's laid out the way the seymour duncan pictures are, so it should be pretty straightforward to line up my DiMarzio's wires and hook everything up to where it's supposed to go...

New builder needs lots of wiring help

Hi everyone,   I'm just about through finishing my VIP project (pictures to come later) and it's coming time for me to wire my electronics. I have no experience doing anything like this and I need some help to figure out how to go about wiring everything. I'm planning to use DiMarzio pickups...

    Grain filler color

Great thanks Tonar, I was really hoping I could leave it brown. By the way, your posts regarding grain filling were very helpful during the filling of my guitar, thanks! Geez

    Grain filler color

Hi,   I have a black korina/flame maple project going on and I'm in the process of filling the grain on the korina back. I'm using Bartley's light oil-base filler. I've applied two coats so far and just sanded the second one back to the field. However, I really liked the color I had on the wood...

New (and my first) VIP project

Thanks, I didn't realize padouk would darken. That's actually pretty good for me, I decided to forgo the stain and just use the filler to darken the korina a little, the padouk might eventually reach the color of the back one day. I dabbed a little of the filler on the body where the neck plate...

New (and my first) VIP project

Thanks James, I plan to build more guitars in the future, so I'll keep the Preval unit in the back of my mind for my next project. I do like Tonar's grain filling topic. I'll do some more research and then get started. Thanks for your help Geez

    Drill holes on my own?

That sounds good to me, I don't plan to put them very close together, I'll probably just measure the area I have and arrange the holes so they are evenly spaced from each other. It looks like the pots and switches will be spaced a minimum of 1 inch apart. I have a Telecaster and the knobs and...

New (and my first) VIP project

I've never had a chance to use a Preval unit before, but I don't think I'll be needing one for this project, everything that needs spraying I can buy in an aerosol. After thinking about it a while, I'm probably not going to dye the back, just the flame top. I started looking into colored grain...

Black Korina/Flame maple VIP bridge pickup decisions

The Liquifire looks cool, and the Evo 2 Bridge too. I like how the Evo 2 is EQ'ed. I guess I'll have to add it to the list of choices. I say go for it  :icon_biggrin:  VIP's are beautiful. Geez

New (and my first) VIP project

Those MEK dyes look really good, and there's lots of colors for fairly cheap. What is an MEK base? The neck is pretty great huh? I probably go deft because of the price and non-yellowing Instead of dying the back, I was thinking of using a colored grain filler to darken it. Although matching...

Black Korina/Flame maple VIP bridge pickup decisions

Hi everyone, I just got my VIP (H X H rout) body a few days ago and I'm finalizing my list of everything I'll need to buy to turn it into a rockin' axe. I've pretty much decided I want to put a DiMarzio PAF Joe in the neck position, but the bridge decision is harder to make. I'm trying to decide...

    Drill holes on my own?

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably use a brad point bit and I'll definitely tape the area and use a block of wood in the back. Do you think there would be any problems with the drill angle? I guess I mean, if I don't drill directly perpendicular to the top, will the switches still fit? Also...

    Drill holes on my own?

So I just received my black korina/flame maple body and I want to drill 3 more control holes for mini switches. Taking Brian's advice in a different topic of mine, I checked inside the control cavity to see how the 3 position switch hole was drilled. Some wood was removed in the control cavity...

New (and my first) VIP project

Thanks everyone, I'm really happy with the top, it's going to look great when tigerstriped. I appreciate the advice, given that I'm inexperienced, I'll definitely practice grain filling and dying and such. Thinking about it, dying the korina the padouk's color would really make the guitar look...
