Work in progress *in my mind*

Yeah, as the description quite clearly states, i'm working on a guitar mentally :tard:.
So, I've used some of Warmoth's bandwith searching for a guitar that fits my needs... no easy task :-\
I prefer playing metal, and I'm really attracted to quite a few of the shapes that Warmoth kindly offers. Currently my vote falls on the Explorer shape.
So, with the shape sorted out (kinda), the real headache becomes apparent. Wood :icon_scratch:
Note, I've chosen the explorer neck and body. So, which woods do you suggest? I play mostly rythm, and I have chosen the SD Invader as my current pickup of choice, only one pickup in neck position.
That being said, I prefer having the sound quite bright, although a bass player too, i prefer my guitar bright, as a sharp contrast to the bass.
Also, what is your opinion of the planet waves tuners? Can they keep my guitar in tune, or do they slip?
I won't have enough money for this project untill after summer, but I'd like some time to contemplate all your suggestions.
Heh, I'm quite the newbie, even though I have played guitar for ten years (since I was six), so, all suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated.
Rock on you guys  :rock-on:

Note: I didn't know where I should post this, so feel free to move this post to  a more appropriate location.

hmm for a brighter tone i would go for swamp ash or alder
i have never used PW tuners but they seem to be very popular around here so i would assume they work just fine, but i do hear complaints about how heavy they are.

Don't spend too much time around the W site before you get money or GAS will be the end of you

Too late, mate. When I saw the Pau ferro explorer, my mind simply exploded :laughing7:
Yeah, just to mention, heavy=no problem.
If I just could mention/ask: I would like my guitar clear-coated(preferably satin). Would walnut fit the brightness-requirement?
Also, although I think Alder and Swamp ash would sound cool, I prefer darker colored wood. ALTHOUGH, i think that a bright neck would be a cool contrast to a darker body. Preferably, the body should be chambered, with matching(same) wood, and the neck and fretboard made of the same wood (not necessarily the same as the body)
One last, stupid question, are the PW tuners locking-tuners, or are they non-locking? I know that they cut the strings, but (as the question says) do they lock?

Explorers are great, I was thinking of doing one in Korina like the original Gibsons. Only thing stopping me is working out where i would store it, as it is a very irregular body shape, and wouldn't sit well in a standing guitar rack.

Yeah, I understand that a few people would find the shape bothersome... but I am lucky! :laughing7:
I went to my local instrument-store, and had a sit-down with an Epiphone Explorer. I felt that the shape of the guitar and I just melted together (that sounded... weird :icon_scratch:)

yeah im pretty sure that planet waves tuners are locking

one question: are you planning to go standard 25.5" scale or the 24 3/4" conversion scale?

If you want something bright you could try maple  :icon_scratch: if you need some ideas you could check my thread out, http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=12079.0
(sorry not meant to be a plug, just meant to help)
whatever you choose I hope it comes out great. :icon_thumright:

Also, I'm 16 too and its great to see someone else my age on the forum.

I used to be 16.

No, really.

@Patrick:(I'm writing from my IPod, so I couldn't copy to the quotes):
I actually consider the 27" baritone scale. Since I play mostly detuned :party07:, a longer neck would let me tune down without having to worry about bad sounds. Any inputs?

Any of you got any thoughts on Walnut?  Also, would chambering the body ruin my concept of a bright-sounding guitar? As I've said before, weight is no issue. Also, would a flame maple neck(with a FM board too) match a walnut body? Both would be clear satin in that case. :laughing7:

Thanks for your ideas so far, made me think a lot(which I ain't used to :tard:) keep em' comin' :icon_thumright:

EDIT: I made a mistake  I managed to say that the baritone neck would be 27", but that is the ESP baritone length... The correct length is 28 5/8". My bad :tard:
EDIT#2: OH MY GOSH! I posted withoud looking :tard: :tard: :tard:. Of course, the baritone version is just available as a maple neck(with fretboard wood of choice). Can this be arranged via a phonecall?(I.E. can I get a baritone neck that is 100% Flame Maple, if I phone in my order?) Also, can I order through mail, as the phone bill would be giganormous :icon_scratch: (I live in Norway)

For a shape like an Explorer, you need a Hercules brand type stand where the guitar hangs by the neck from the stand instead of sitting on the base of the stand.
