Woodburning on quilted maple Strat

That there is one of the most amazing and tedious breakup camouflage jobs I've ever seen. Simple stripes are just as effective at both distracting and making it difficult to 'see' what you see, particularly at 180mph.

Well, there's been some sort of SNAFU with my equipment order(surprise!); the 'Detail Master' control unit I ordered was not included with the delivery of
stuff-burning tips, etc., so I've had time to continue & add to the overall design...I think it's complete now :icon_biggrin:. Today I begin my campaign of relentless phone calls til I get an answer as to where the unit is, etc., etc. It seems as though the only way to get results is to become such a pain in the butt that 'they' will help ya out just to get rid of you...OK by me.
Anyhow, here's the final design...

Approval from down here    :icon_biggrin:  :icon_thumright:

Great work so far !!  .... some fine detail in there  :o

I really like the final design - the outline fills it out while still leaving some of the quilt maple to show through. And the turtle design is perfect for a Warmoth guitar.  :occasion14:

Thanks again, gentlemen, and P54, I don't think I've mentioned it previously, but I must give you credit for putting the bug in my ear/eye for doing a
woodburning project. Just what I needed to expand on the Warmoth-building addiction and include my illustration in the project, so consider this an official "THANK YOU" for that. :icon_thumright:

I'm glad I could inspire someone to do a project like this. I thought I would only do one myself, but now I have 3 other woodburn guitar projects planned in the next year or so - an MC Escher design on mahogany bass, Polynesian artwork on a basswood WGD, and another tribal tattoo on a korina Strat-like guitar. It's addictive now.

In the process of showing off my guitar, I also got 2 requests so far from other people - one will be on a friend's PRS and another will probably be Ralph Steadman art on a Strat copy. I'll post those here when I start them, even though they're not Warmoths.

Besides M. C. Escher, there's a "naturalist" illustrator names Ernst Haeckel who was terrify-good. The "..." because he went just a teensy-bit overboard on his coloring and such... read all about it, poke some pix: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Haeckel

and buy his book, you have to. The "Prestel" edition is the one you want. I was actually turned onto him by Jim Woodring, a still-living nut artist in his own right:

I need more hours in the day. I tried quitting sleeping for a few years, fraught with hazards in it's own way, sigh. :sad1:

Something like that would look cool on a guitar. Another artist I like, sort of along the same lines of bold color, is a painter named Tony Abeyta.....

I've never slept much more than 5 hours total in a day unless I've been boozing it up. But then, that's not really sleep. These days, it's broken into a couple 2-3 hour naps. Works out well, but it's not for everybody.

Not to get too much off topic, but this discussion got me looking at some art online and I came across this piece, by a guy named Akiyoshi Kitaoka. Did someone slip something in my drink?  Because I think this picture is moving. :o

Wow, you have rendered an image that I have been thinking intensely about the last few weeks. Eagles are my favorite animal and I have lots of eagle pictures and carvings in my home. I've been trying to decide if I could do an eagle inlay or woodcarving or woodburn in my guitar build. You have done an amazing job here, very impressive! I look forward to watching how it turns out!

AAARRGH!! After being told for two weeks that the control unit I ordered would be "in the next delivery", a 3rd phone call revealed that in fact, none of the
units are currently( :laughing7:)available, and won't be until mid-September. So, this project is on hold for a couple of weeks-very frustrating when the benevolent madness of creative focus is
present, with nowhere to touch down...HEY! Maybe I'll PLAY guitar! I'll resume the thread when
the project is up-&-running again...

Dude, man, we expect no less than a song out of all this. In the Grand Tradition of naming shred guitar CD's of the Golden Years things like, "The Witch vs. The Sorcerer" and "The Cave Bear vs. The Clan" I think you should call it -

"The Benevolent Madness of Creative Focus vs. The Control Unit - in the Wind!"

Haeckel is one of my favorite artists.  I have this one in my art studio:

The Strat looks cool.  :headbang1:

Equipment FINALLY delivered, and today I started burning...
As I'd hoped, using the correct temperature enables an effect similar enough to drawing with a pen that this process-so far- feels rather comfortable...anyway, I'm diggin' it...

Wow! Color me impressed! That's gonna be one sweet piece of work when you're done. If I had that kind of talent, I think I'd be engraving printing plates for the various mints.

Thats amazing!! I tried woodburning once, and it was much much hard than it sounds, or looks! Keep up the great work!  :rock-on:
