Hollow Neck, connecting into the hollowbody!
I cannot think of a single reason in which anyone would want a hollow neck. :icon_scratch:
That is the opposite of what most people agree is the essential construction of a "good" neck. Ideally, you want as much wood as you can get, unless it makes the neck feel too thick in your hand. Most people like a stiff neck that does not flex, as well. Hollowing a neck out does not help with that.
Well, first of all, hence the title "...maybe." And to be honest, my new VIP has "broken the barrier" in terms of comfort and playability that I just had to think of something so far out there as a hollow neck to merit another instrument.
And really, the only thing left to do (besides fanned fretboard and baritone register, and 24+ scalloped frets) is to try fatter necks which only increase lopsided weight and neck dive (although maybe a strap engineered to counter this problem...). But the more I thought about it, the more the angst of someone shooting down my idea wore off and the closer I came to a genuine solution. Are you ready? You're gonna love this.
Not only will a hollow neck allow for a wider neck radius with less weight (from carbon fiber construction, or heck, graphite for u fellow tennis players out there) but shaped with style and verve, a hollow neck might create a "sound intake" much the same as the air intake of a jet engine. :icon_thumright:
Now its a little early in the design to start adding fuel injectors, but I was thinking about adding a fan and/or speakers to the ass end of the body so that when the moment strikes and the music catches air and its time to kick it into supersonic ("interstellar?") overdrive, I just point the headstock at the drummer, and collect the sound with the hollow air intake neck (like a vacuum) and blast the faces of the audience off with high velocity notes from the back of my guitar. :toothy10:
Here is the air intake of an F-16, which I think is a sexy plane, but the F-14 looks awesome too. And of course, IMHO no other plane looks as futuristic as the SR71 (or the B2 Spirit). So really, a combination of those jet airplanes would be pretty sweet.
A-10 Warthog is also a beautiful plane, but its design is so different from the others that it would probably need its own guitar. :icon_biggrin:
