I want to see a mockup of a walnut hollowbody VIP w/ maple tele neck TOM bridge and gold hardware.
I'm feeling inclined to buy either a thinline or the walnut L5S they have in-stock just because they're cheaper and i'm not totally convinced the VIP will end up looking good the way i want to do it. ()*@& all this theory is a headache

Well I'm pretty good a photochoppin', so I'll work it up for ya. But in reality, a tele neck will only fit on a tele, unless you have the neck pocket custom cut...Gimme a min... :icon_biggrin:

thanx for the help! if i want it w/ a tele neck i'll order the body w/ a tele neck pocket. It just sucks that if i do that, there's no flexibility in replacing the neck later. lame.

i'm grumpy. i can't decide if the VIP will come out looking good enough to warrant the extra money. i want to stain it like a nice dark chocolatey brown w/ gold hardware and strat electronics layout (i hate having the toggle switch at the bottom of the guitar.) I just can't visualize it.

That VIP mockup looks pretty cool (esp.. with the Warmoth neck IMO).  If you don't mind me askin', how much extra money are you talking?

well a VIP walnut hollow body w/ the configuration i want is $610. There's a really pretty walnut L5S hollow in the showcase that's $440. And a thinline would cost less than $400
Whatever I build, it's going to be walnut hollowbody w/ birdseye maple neck and the whole thing will be finished in oil. major thing is that i know what a thinline would look like built to spec. but i have less specific of a vision of what the L5S or VIP would look like completed, and of course in terms of body shape they appeal to me in descending order (i like the more expensive body shapes)

If I were you, I would get the tele headstock on a strat neck.

:icon_scratch: you can't do that w/ warmoth can you?
I believe you can get a tele headstock with the strat heel...But that might be something the custom shop would have to do... :dontknow:

you should be able to put a tele headstock on a strat heel. actually there was a tele neck with a tilted headstock that came with a strat heel that i thought was pretty cool. would have been perfect for me if it still had a tele heel. if you DO order that combo it probably won't be returnable (unless it's damaged) though. but shouldn't be a problem at all.

i have this problem that I want to make something new and unique, but without seeing it already finished, I'm scared that it won't end up looking great. My other option is to go with a much more conventional aesthetic (a black tele w/ cream binding, ivoroid pickguard and gold hardware) that i will like, but isn't all that unique and i won't get the fun of a doing an oil finish on a walnut guitar like i wanted to.

Perhaps I'll just make a tele version of this:

what do you guys think?

yup i have one

my tele was originally supposed to get an eb/mm headstock and i wanted to use my fender neck while the warmoth was being built so i got the body with a strat route(non refundable) then when i ordered the neck the whole lawsuit thing happened and warmoth sold off all the vw's they had and wouldn't build the neck i wanted. so i got a strat heel and tele headstock on a purple heart neck with madegascar ebony board ss frets and koa laminate on the headstock. i don't remember if the neck was refundable though.

I dont' think it's an option on the website. I guess if i go that route i'll make sure to do the order by phone. thanks man

the website is not perfect yet, it has gone through changes recently. also they want to make sure there is a clear understanding of every thing and that you wont try to put it on a telecaster and ask them why it doesn't look right. they probably prefer to take these things by phone anyhow.

you'd be surprised how many calls they get from people who don't know jack complaining about something they didn't understand at the time of purchase. a couple people have come on here pissed that warmoth didn't assemble the guitar, many more people have complained that the frets needed leveling and the nut needed work. many dont understand that warmoth is a parts manufacturer period! nothing else. alot of fit and finnish work goes into building a guitar, warmoths high standards keep that to a minimum but warmoth does not preform the finnish work.

but more related many people overlook things like neck pocket, scale length, bridge locations, pocket angle, and many other things trying to put a nck on an existing body or ordering a body without knowing all the details about the bridge they chose.
