Who put together your Warmoth?

Hi, I'm new to the forum but I've been considering getting a warmoth for some time. I have no guitar building skills so I would probably give the parts to a qualified luthier to do the work. All the ones in my area pretty much suck at anything apart from repairs and setups....

who do you guys recommend?

I had never built one either, but you will be surprised at how easy it can be.  If you have a basic understanding of a drill and screwdriver, you can put it together.  Wiring it up still gives me problems, but with some practice I am getting better.

You're from Peru, judging by your email address?  I don't think any of us know anyone in Peru.  If you live in Lima I'm sure you can find a place... look for musical instrument repair shops.  If you live on the grassy slopes of Machu Picchu you're gonna have to do it yourself.  :icon_biggrin:

yup. I live in Perú.....Lima actually.

And there are some good luthiers around here (some have worked for PRS and the Fender Custom shop).

But I'd prefer to have the guitar built in the states....mainly beause shipping all the parts over is logistically more complicated than shipping one finished guitar or even having a friend send it over.

Regarding the first answer....I too have heard it's easy...but there's something about the permanent nature of a drilled hole that puts me off  :laughing7: :laughing7: :laughing7:

well, you could order everything from warmoth and have them ship all the parts to mike lull ,  and mike lull can ship the completed guitar to you!  http://www.mikelull.com/welcome%20frames.htm or farm out the work you Don't want to do!

or use another lutier over here in US !?

best wishes

great...has he done any work for you? But isn't he an established guitar builder with his own brand? I've read revies in guitar world I think

Mike Lull put these together for me. I was'nt going to mess up 5A wood. Lull doe's have his own brand and he doe's almost anything with    guitars, just ask , tell him you were referred to him from this crazy guy from this site. Warmoth and Lull are really nice  guys ... :headbang1:

I don't know how the prices are there, but my local guitar shops charge a Kings ransom to put one together. So I've been doing everything myself, except the wiring..I'm still thinking about that one.  I will take it to get a professional setup once complete, however.  This will check that I've put it together properly and that everything is kosher (and is a pretty cheap process compared to assembling it).

prices here are quite reasonable.....having a les paul, PRS, strat, etc copy ranges from 500-800 USD. That is with all materials included. I've never heard of anybody buying warmoth parts and having them assembled here though.

This guy is quite respected locally for his guitars, Antonio Huamaní

sorry all of it is spanish

I'd still prefer to have the guitar shipped in one piece from the states.....I'd hate for some little thing to be lsot, and although you can buy anything here, I'd rather get it from Warmoth.

he's very fond of PRS guitars http://www.gaiaband.com/huamani/imagenes/tr-santana%201%20hg.jpg

The biggest difference between a GOOD luthier from Peru and a GOOD from USA is: how easy he can get the stuff and machinery that he'll probably have... Here in Brazil (and believe there in Peru too) the things are more expensive and harder to find... so usually here the work is more raw, "hands on"

I've built all of my own Warmoths ... and once I had quite a few under my belt, I started to make my own bodies and necks from rough materials.

all the best,

R

I buy the parts unfinished and finish them myself then assemble it. I done it a few times but it's still easy to get unexpected result with sunburst... I end up saving money after a few times though, both customs fee (higher cost means more for customs to tax you over) and general cost...

I assebled and wired mine, but Warmoth built it.  I did modify my bridge, but that was just drilling and filing.

I've actually gotten that question before.  When I told friends and family I ordered a Warmoth, after I explained what a Warmoth was, the next question was, "Who's going to build it?"

I've used Warmoth replacement necks and bodies for others, but haven't I been able to keep any for myself.      I'm still waiting on some hardware before I can finish building the first 100% complete W I get to keep.

Have you posted any pics, Blue?
