What projects do you have planned for 2010.

Hey, Pete, I'm really sorry about your mom.
All the best wishes through this, man.

Thanx Max, I appreciate that. I've been an emotional wreck for the past 3 weeks or so as I watched my Mum lose her fight with dementia ( the 'day' has been looming for nearly 10 years, I've tried to prepare for the grief, but it still creeps up on you) and having to make the gawd awful decision (with my Sisters) to stop treatment for pneumonia and let nature take it's course through Palliative Care. Not pretty.

Been reluctant to mention it here, as I have popped in here for some escape from the grief - which has been very helpful.  :icon_thumright:

Wow ozzie, so sorry for you, I don't look forward to that day, it surely is comming, I will go off the deep end on that day. Peace bro, sounds like she loved you

Hey Pete, for what it's woth, my prayers are with you in this time. You'll make it through. Lucky to have a mom who let you play loud! In times of loss, your siblings can be a great source of strength. It sounds like you have a very special tribute planned for her. Don't forget to write her a song!

A swamp ash tele with a sort of transparent sunburst, hipshot strat vibrato, rear routed, fatback birdseye neck with no inlays, tele pickups.

Sorry to hear that Pete.  It's something you wouldn't wish on anybody.

A big +1 to that tribute though.  Sounds awesome!

Thank you so much for your condolences everybody.  :occasion14:

Maton were pioneers using Australian woods as tonewoods for their acoustics, so when I get to discuss this with them (I'm told I can even get to select the woods that will make the guitar & a visit to their factory!)  I will mention the motivation behind the guitar and I'm hoping to be able to get some yummy Victorian Blackwood (darkly stained not natural finished) and maybe some other Australian woods into the project. Not going all out with an All Australian guitar as I'm not convinced about the Bunya wood being a suitable replacement for Sitka Spruce as a top tonewood. I played a Maton with a Bunya top the other day and it was quite stiff in response compared to the Spruce of a similar design. Looked very ordinary too.

This project will probably be my one and only splash out in honour of Mum. So I want it to be good! And of course, even though this won't be a Warmoth project, I understand the mantra : pix or it don't exist! :icon_thumright:

well i got my ongoing strat fitted with a nice neck from the sale, so in 2010 I see a white pearl pickguard in its future with a new set of pickups (Dimarzio Billy Corgan set in the neck/bridge with the Cruiser in the center) and knobs to top it off before i most likely sell it

I still need to finish my EB-3 Bass

And I have several other ideas for some new artwork themed guitars but I doubt I have the money for them any time soon

I pretty much blew my budget in 2009 so I don't see a new guitar build in 2010, but I am planning on rebuilding my 10 year old Tele build. I'm going to turn it into a Gretschcaster.

in 2010, I plan on finishing my Rhoads Kit, My '86 Gibby Exploder, and getting a body goin for my new neck bought from the sale, want to make a 1X15 bass cab...
Whew, it don't sound like much, but I got no time!.."There's never ANY time...I'm so exited! I'm so exited! I'm so...scared!"

:laughing7:

Condolences to you Pete.

Maton, i live not that far from the factory in Bayswater and i have a 50's maton lap steel.
I love their acoustics just have never needed to buy one as i have enought acoustics from my early playing days.

At the moment i am in a race to finish off the Baritone asap, of course still taking my time and paying attention to detail.

1st will be a tele Esquire out of Ancient Kauri i am winding my own pickup to spec 1955 the 1st year with staggered poles, i am also thinking of doing this one all myself except for the neck. 2nd will be an acient kauri tele style with a HB neck with an old german ultrsonic in it, middle overwound lipstick or single coil strat, neck self wound tele. Both guitars will have woolly mammoth ivory nuts  so these guitars will be over 10000 years old in some parts. The theme is ol' 55, i was born in that year and i will 55 in 2010.

Ooooh, there's a thousand jokes in that line Tony!
1. Wouldn't the wool on the nuts dampen the notes?
2. Those guitars sound like they'd have some balls to 'em!  :laughing7:

Just wait til the rest of the jokers in our forum read that line... :icon_scratch: :icon_jokercolor:

Jokes aside tho, the projects for your 55th year sounds interesting with the older wood etc. and the retro design pickup. Good luck with them. :icon_thumright:

(oh and thnak you for the condolences.)

Suffering delusions of grandeur, I bought a Warmoth wood blank just before Xmas. A mate and I will attempt to hack something out of it for 2010.  If all goes well, I'll post some pictures up later in the year. If it goes poorly, it will never be mentioned again... :icon_biggrin:

Unless it meets with Epic failure.  In which case, it must be documented for posterity. :laughing7:

Whether I'm going to build my first Warmoth bass will ultimately depend on how much my band will be playing in 2010. I want to finance this bass (at least for a bit) from what I'll earn with these gigs. When gigs generate some cash, it makes sense to get/build another proper 5 string bass. Well, my current "5" will likely become the backup then.

So far I have my mind set on a Gecko 5 (small). Swamp Ash body in Trans Vintage Tint Gloss, Wenge/ebony neck, chrome h/w. No thrills.
Not sure yet what kind of pickups I'll be using but tubby.twin's "Turbo" pickup placement looks tight: http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=10319.0
I bet is sounds tight too. Or maybe I'll just settle for an MM5 in the sweet spot.

It's going to take at least a couple more months before I'm totally sure what to get...

Okay... change of plans. I even haven't started on my first W yet and I doubt it will happen in 2010.
I proposed to my girlfriend on new year's eve.... and she said yes. :icon_biggrin:
It made me realize that it's better to not to tie up my cash in bass guitars just yet considering the costs of a decent wedding. :)

But I'll stick around. Lack of cash doesn't rob me of an opinion. ;)

Elope.  :)
LMAO.

(I actually had to look that word up, I'm not a native speaker).
Our families wouldn't like that. No sir... not at all. :)

It's all good. The family deserves a proper party. They've been so supportive ever since my girlfriend and I started dating.
I'll get that Gecko, just a bit later. Maybe I can still squeeze in a replacement neck for my Squier jazz instead... Nah, never mind. I'll just have to see what's left when the dust has settled.

Max: Thnx  :icon_thumright:
