What builds do you have planned for yourself in 2010?

I’m going to finish the On Fire Flame Maple Tele.  I have been putting it at the back of the line to finish customer’s projects but I'm close to having it ready to rub out.  After that I think I’m done doing guitars for myself for a while and I’ll do a mandolin. My plan is to do a top of the line Siminoff F5 mandolin kit.

Here's the kit.

First warmoth too. 98% sure on a tele custom.
Been putting it off for a while because of other projects though (paying off student loan, building a micro brewery in my basement, short film projects, saving up to buy a house, etc....) but lot of those are coming to an end, and i can't wait to get my hands on a warmoth.

With any luck, I'll be getting my second Warmoth.  The plan is for an Alpine White Gibson-style V (swamp ash or black korina), with a Warmoth conversion neck (warmoth headstock) most likely wenge/ziricote

Add an EMG 60/81 combo, and I can't wait...

Whether I'm going to build my first Warmoth bass will ultimately depend on how much my band will be playing in 2010. I want to finance this bass (at least for a bit) from what I'll earn with these gigs. When gigs generate some cash, it makes sense to get/build another proper 5 string bass. Well, my current "5" will likely become the backup then.

So far I have my mind set on a Gecko 5 (small). Swamp Ash body in Trans Vintage Tint Gloss, Wenge/ebony neck, chrome h/w. No thrills.
Not sure yet what kind of pickups I'll be using but tubby.twin's "Turbo" pickup placement looks tight: http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=10319.0
I bet is sounds tight too. Or maybe I'll just settle for an MM5 in the sweet spot.

It's going to take at least a couple more months before I'm totally sure what to get...

1) Strat-style 12 string maple/rosewood on an (as yet) unfinished swamp ash body.  Duncan '59 in the bridge and some other chrome-covered pickup in the neck with a Gibson-style 3 way and a volume knob.  Maybe a HB-sized P-90.  Rear routed, btw.

2) Chambered quilted maple-topped brown burst Strat with tan pickguard and Fender Tele bridge pickup wired through a Tele 3 way with one of these: Fender Tele Neck, Duncan quarter pound Tele neck or a Roadhouse Strat neck pickup.  I'll have a P-90 in the middle with a defeat switch (as well as a defeat switch for the Tele-style pickup set).  Wilkinson trem.  The neck will be a maple/rosewood with an angled Warmoth headstock.

3) A Bass VI with a TOM and Roadhouse pickups.  I'm leaning towards a solid color, and I'm for sure going Maple(figured maybe)/Rosewood.

4) A PJ bass for my father.  He wants a vintage burst with no reds to speak of.  I'm not sure what you'd call that, but some sort of a brown burst over Alder.  He also wants an offwhite or  mint green pickguard and an ashtray cover for the bridge.  Maple/Rosewood, most likely, though he spent hours on Christmas playing the exotic woods on all my basses.  I couldn't sell him on Canary, but he did like the Poly-covered headstock and neck joint with a Tung oiled neck on my fretless quite a lot, so that's probably happening.  His words: "A bass just doesn't look right to me without a thick finish on that maple at the end of the neck."

I'm planning to get a Warmoth swamp ash strat (rear routed) in the "burnt-finish".
Can't think of anyone else who could do this better than this guy I know.   :laughing7:

I'm going to finish off the Great Gecko Neck Swap of '09, by ordering the wood for my last few Gecko basses that I am planning to build.  I think I've got everything worked out in my head, regarding which neck needs to be mounted on which body.  This is driven equally by tonal characteristics and aesthetics.

Also, I need to finish up my Ultimate Fretless Bridge Pickup Comparison, which is dragging out longer than I had expected it to take.  I'm recording sound clips of various bridge pickups on one of my Geckos, and I'll be posting a comprehensive review and comparison once I manage to test everything that I had planned to test.  However, I've run out of cash that I can throw at this project.  :D

I actually haven't attached a neck to this body yet, but I'll let you know when I get around to that.  The neck that I had planned to use on this body is currently attached to the body that I am using for the pickup comparison project (see above) so I cannot change it until I test all the pickups, for consistency.

There's nothing wrong with a MM5 pickup.  This would get you close to the "turbo" configuration, without needing to spend extra for custom pickup placement.  Delano and Bartolini both make quad-coil pickups which effectively have two twin-coil humbuckers inside, at *nearly* the same locations.

1 - Release the Cornflower Blue album

2 - rebuild a Harmon Kardon Citation II power amp

3 - finish a couple of Mayfly amps made out of left over parts (just need to do the boxes)

4 - another guitar of mysterious specification

-Carved top tele w 2 f-holes in mahogany mated with a warmoth canary neck. Body and peghead face in Inca Silver, 2xHB, Wilkinson trem

-L5S 12 string. BK body, BK neck, Ipe fingerboard, black hardware, natural finish

True. A single pickup can be quite versatile (and would also cut some costs compared to two pups). I've played an Ibanez with MM5-style pickup for years and own a MM Sterling. But I still may want to try something different this time. And my current '5' has P/J pups and I'm not sure if I'd go that route again.

Anyway, keep us posted on how the turbo configuration turns out.

A Warmoth Bass VI (not yet available) or a Baritone tuned to E standard (an octave lower than guitar) like a Bass VI.  The string tension for E standard on a baritone doesn't seem possible, but if a 7 string Baritone can get a low F#, surely I can use those gauges on a 6 string version minus the highest gauge and tune down one whole step.  That's why the 30" scale Bass VI seems like a winner.

by the end of 2010 i hope to have a bass of some kind. i've had a bass neck for a year or so waiting for a body, and haven't quite found the right fit yet. i'll probably be buying a squier bass, then replacing the neck. thats the plan, anyway! plus finishing my squier 51 i've had sitting around waiting to be finished... probably with the P-Rails pickup i've had sitting around not being used.

deluxe 5 jazz bass from showcase sale. probably take me a year to gather all the parts and have it set up.

2010 could go in two directions.  If the Warmoth/Earvana nut for tiltback headstocks gets released, then there is a Les Paul first and an Explorer second.  If that doesn't happen, then there is a tele with an underwound Lollar p 90 in the neck, and various upgrades to the other guitars.  There are various amp (the Deluxe Reverb I have half of the stuff I need for) and pedal projects (that Fuzz Face will get finished, stupid carbon comp resistors) as well as the need for a dark sounding 4 x 12 cabinet (not a Marshall) but I can watch the used parade go by for some of that.  I also need to save up for some more parts for the Leslie I am trying to get back into shape.  I guess that the answer to the question is it is going to be a hectic year like normal.

Trully is just one PROJECT, but there is lot of "if happens will be cool":

Thin up a little... Just it...

Will try to:
* learn how to play Rugby (when my shoulder get back in normal, at the moment will start physical therapy, if it ain't work... surgery...)
* start playing guitar again
* finish the L5S and the Metal Tele for the friend (I'm certain he doesn't expect to get it, but...)
