Wenge neck thoughts

I have a wenge/ebony neck thats a couple of years old, I left it raw and there is a spot that the grain is starting to raise a bit.  I was wondering if adding a oil finish to the neck would smooth out the grain. IF I did choose to do that should I sand it before? and should I be concerned with using naptha or something to clean the wood before I apply the oil?

You can sand it, use naptha, or add some oil to it and it will do fine.  Formby's lemon oil works well to give a little oil back to the wood.  If the grain needs to be sanded, you can strip off the hand goo with some naptha.  Then sand it slick, and I'd make sure to shop vac off any dust from the sanding before adding the lemon oil.  Go slowly with the sanding is the only other thing I'd really advise.
