hey gang, new here,,
just got a new Warmoth neck for my JV Strat, I was looking through the already constructed section and they had a good price on a Black Korina with Ebony fretboard, 1 3/4" nut and I THOUGHT it had SS6150 stainless frets but actually came with nickel 6150 but it was MY error not there's , anyways I thought most of their necks were finished using Nitrocellulose lacquer, I just wish to confirm that, the glossy finish almost has a "Poly" feel to it,,
your thoughts ??

shipping this neck back and exchange for a "burnt maple" satin nitro with SS frets  :eek:ccasion14: Thanks for the input  :guitarplayer2:

If you are referring to roasted maple, those necks are best kept raw. A finish will ruin the feel.

Yeah that's it,  I was Leary about getting an unfinished neck and Warmoth strongly urges people not to or it'll void any warranty, the satin nitro should be a relatively thin finish which should wear with time and play, I live in Florida where there LOTS of humidity and warpage concerns me ;)

You have not read into the concept of roasted maple then. The heat stabilizes the wood.

the best warmoth necks that I have are unfinished Canary and Roasted Maple pro necks.  If you stick with these woods no finish is really the best finish.

BTW, this is in a climate that varies seasonally from minus 40 to plus 40 degrees centigrade and from 10% humidity to 90% humidity.  Florida is a cakewalk compared to that  :)

There are only certain neck wood species that Warmoth supplies that require a finish, without which the warranty is void. Maple is one of them, but not roasted Maple. Any other Maple presents a risk of warping/twisting. If you have a roasted Maple neck, you can either do nothing to it or burnish it (highly recommended). You definitely don't finish it, though. Wrecks the feel.

additionally...SATIN nitro will become GLOSS nitro as you play it.  You hand will polish it up.

thank you all for the input gang,, this was a neck that was already constructed from Warmoth and ready to ship, I didnt build it from scratch, I was looking for a replacement for a strat  ( Jimmie Vaughan ) that has a maple neck on there but I have been playing my Gibson SG A LOT and have gotten quite fond of this particular guitar, so being that I LOVE stratocasters tone I wanted a neck "closer" in profile to the SG, the Warmoth neck profile has a "59" profile, it's not as full as my SG but it feels better then the "soft v" on the Vaughan neck, the stock Vaughan neck was satin poly and yes after playing it, it shined to a gloss,, I'm hoping the nitro will wear in time, ( probably take a long time ) but I hope I will love it anyway,, you guys are right in that I didnt research necks and wood characteristics and wasnt aware that "Roasted Maple" is better unfinished,, I have played several necks that were unfinished and I agree in that they felt GREAT !!
I am considering doing a strat build and maybe the next one will be something different  :eek:ccasion14:

Enjoy the neck.
I think you will find the nitro will wear much more quickly than the poly...
