Hi,
first post, newbie here  :binkybaby:, I'm starting to put together a custom guitar and the neck is the most important part for feeling. I do like fat maple necks and I own a fender mim start classic 70' with U neck profile that I like. I also tried a telecaster 72 deluxe reissue that had a neck I really liked, fender web page says it's a C neck, but it felt chunkier and with more shoulders than other C necks I've tried in other fenders.

Has any of you tried any of those guitars and a warmoth fatback neck? How do they compare?

I very much appreciate all your answers.

I have owned both the '72 deluxe and a Warmoth neck with the fat-back contour. (-Unfortunately I no longer own either, so I don't have any measurements to share, just an opinion on feel from memory.)

The fat-back is really chunky, like the back doesn't even dip in when transitioning from the flat back of the headstock where it starts to round. This contour is guaranteed to be one of the biggest hunks of lumber you'll ever wrap your mitts around; much heftier than the fender models you mentioned. You will notice a marked difference in the thickness between the two.

For the record, I liked it. A lot... but then I tried a boatneck contour and that was it for me. The fat-back got transferred to a half-moth build and peddled away (-which I regret from time to time, -but that's another thread).

Strictly going by the drawings on W's website and by what I remember of the '72 deluxe, I'm wondering if you'd actually go for a '59 roundback instead.  :dontknow:

I had a '72 RI Tele and a guitar player in my band had a Fatback.  They are not the same neck shape.  Initially, I didn't like the feel of the Fatback.  It has little or no taper; it's felt just as thick at the 1st fret as it did at the heel.  I tried it again a few years later and liked it.  Again, they are different shapes, but if you like fat necks you'll probably like it, but IMO, the '59 Roundback can't be beat especially with a 1 11/16 nut width.  Very PRSey.

Thank you both for your answers, this "feeling" comparison is what I was looking for, not detailed measurements. Definitely the '59 Roundback looks like a better choice.
